Se, I agree with the portion sizes - I have taken much more notice of sizes since I started WW again and I was eating way way too much before. It wasn't necessarily *what* I ate, but how much that was an issue. That on its own should filter through to the shopping bills!

Yes, no loss on the M/B (or at least a very small one, if any) but annoyed that it happened and could have been avoided! Oh well.....

Might see if I can grab a nap this afternoon for an hour after the shopping has arrived - I really am that tired!!

One thing we found helped was getting some smaller sized bowls for things like breakfast cereals etc, it does make the portion control easier.

Stuff like mayo or salad dressings I now always measure out using spoons, rather than just adding a dollop.

Hope you manage a sleep this afternoon Hypno.

Tesco shopping has arrived and been put away - we have rather a lot of it, so hopefully spends for the rest of the month can be kept to a minimum! Even the delivery driver commented on how much we had, so considering what I spent, I think we have done ok.....

Re portion control - I always thought I ate "normal" portions, but WW portions are much much smaller! I know WW portions are, essentially, *diet* portions, but even so, there is quite a big difference, so it is no wonder I have put on so much weight over the past couple of years or so!

As a result, I am weighing/measuring out a whole lot more now in order to get a proper idea of what I should be eating, and also I am keeping a proper food diary online to make sure I can see where I am tempted to let snacks etc creep in....

Youa re sooo right about this: have you noticed how much bigger plates have become in recent years, and how it's currently fashionable not to have a rim in many designs, meaning that there is a greater surface area over which to put food and therefore most people who intuitively have 'a plateful' are, in reality, eating much more? And they wonder why obesity rates are increasing...

Yes the plate size thing is a problem.
I try to use a smaller plate.

One thing that's helping me is trying not to double up on the carbs, e.g. if I have a quiche which has pastry, it's just with salad or vege, so not jacket potatoes, bread or other carb. For me it's an easy rule to stick to, and works well if your at home or eating out.

I'd not thought about the plate size trend before, but as I was unloading the dishwasher I noticed my old plates had a rim.....but my current ones, which are massive, don't......and it is very easy to fill them with pasta etc without considering it to be a huge portion.

    Food for thought......so to speak.

When I've gone on diets, or "healthy eating attempts", I've not really taken too much interest in the "why's" of the reasons I put on weight in the first place, or find it difficult to stick to diets/change of habits longer term. Hopefully, this time, it will work - as part, perhaps, of the bigger "learning about myself" process that is happening right now. I do hope so.

  • Hypno are you still full with the small er portion sizes or did it take time to adjust?

Not sure about Hypno, for me it took a while. Also it's worth trying the 20 mins rule, supposedly it takes 20 mins for the food you eat to make you feel full. So if you're still hungry straight after eating, wait 20 mins and see if you're still hungry then.
