Yep, sounds good to me too. The decluttering is *so* important - just these few weeks of having it nice while I prepared to sell have shown me how pleasant the environment can be when its tidy. But I'm definitely going to have packers in, in any case - I'm tempted to pack some bits up anyway, the really grotty things I'm embarrassed about :o:o

Are they things that have to go with you to the new place? Just a thought:D

I too can also see your worry in your post but am sure that you'll manage as you always do to come up with a great plan.I know how you feel as it's hard to come up with a plan that works but am sure you'll find something that works.

When you get to goal at WW it'll be free so that will free up £18 p/m

    Have a good day x

Sounds like a good plan, Hypno: it's just piggybanking with envelopes instead of piggies/pots, but if it works for you, then go for it! x

Right.....in doing that "early morning thinking of money thing" that I am sure we all do....ie, money/debt/balancing taking up every waking moment, and some of those sleeping moments too......and in tripping over a big box of white envelopes in my office this morning, I have decided to give the "envelope budgeting" method a try.

IE, when I get to work, I will work out what money comes in on what date, allocate certain amounts to certain things, and on the day that the money comes in, whether it is salary, maintenance, or child benefit, I will divvy it up in the appropriate envelopes, write on them what it is for and the date, and then SEAL THEM.

They can then go in a safe place to be brought out on the day they are needed. eg the garden guys come every other Tuesday and it costs me £20 a time - needless to say, there will usually be Tuesdays when I have either forgotten to get money from the bank or, more likely, that there is not £20 in the bank.....so by putting it in the envelope as soon as it is received, hopefully I will eliminate that bit of stress in trying to find it at the last minute.

I need to make it workable, so that I am not tempted to borrow from another envelope, so some sort of system has to be devised....hopefully by the end of the day I will have come up with something that I can implement with effect from Payday.

got to be worth a try......

    Hi Hypno
Just popped in to say what a fabulous idea, which I intend to copy.:T I have been overspending on groceries recently:eek: and had lots of parties for dd's. Along with dancing, brownies, rainbows, swimming, tennis, school trips etc etc etc !:(
I too get cash out and end up wasting the residual.

So number crunching night tonight for me I think!

Fab news about the windows and your weight loss. You have come such along way this year in lots of aspects of your life. :T:T

    Hugs x

I have asked about interest free loans for season tickets but to no avail. I will ask them again. As I don't tend to go away for most of my "holidays" I will still use an annual pass for trips into the city etc, and even without that, it still works out comparable so that is what I am going to aim for.

Until then it will be a combination of monthly and weekly tickets according to my annual leave.

Souk, your system sounds very much like mine. I have been brainstorming a bit and my "true" grocery budget has to be tight, so am going to get right back into the batched cooking habit. I may look for a cheap chest freezer for the garage too as my old one was great for hoarding meals for the month.

taxi - re WW, I am now in my healthy BMI, so although I would like to be a bit lighter yet, technically I can be at goal now if I want to. My current monthly pass runs out next Weds so whatever my weight is then, will be my "goal" weight for WW so that I do not have to renew. I will, of course, still go to weigh in every week because I would like to at least stay at the weight that I am now and preferably lose a few more lbs.

Yup, if there's a way to save £18, I'm on the case :D

My windows are done - and the house is so bright! Must make the most of it and keep decluttering and tidying!

Glad the windows are done - another tick on the list then !!!

Been having trouble posting for the last two weeks but I have been keeping up with the goings on !!

DS is in Oklahoma - ended up staying an extra couple of days at my sisters and is now confined to the university accommodation because of the floods ! DD is home from Uni and has still not finished unpacking.

Will catch up later - have a good evening

Hi Hypno, does your employer do an annual travel ticket loan - interest free of course? My son found out his employer offered this benefit after mentioning to his manager that he didn't have enough money to buy his usual monthly saver ticket...

My employer has an environmental day in July, with free bacon butties if we bike/walk to work. The hope being that we will use these greener commute options after finding it doesn't take much longer than the stop-start drive.

Worth asking about, and perhaps pursuing through a staff consultative committee?

Cheers from your lurking admirer, Satchmo
