Pooky, I have no idea how many DD is taking - she has taken some already in year 10 and earlier in year 11, so has some experience of it, but still plenty to come over the next few weeks. It is her last "proper" day at school on Monday though, so she is very much looking forward to the mayhem that normally ensues then.......good luck to your DD.

Still some way short of your £12k, frustratingly. I'd typed out the calcs, and thought I'd better not post it - you've doubtless done them yourself. I don't see how you can find that much extra either, even with your energy, because as you said about the home office, you're planning to use time at home to do what the blokes at work do, to do the behind the scenes research for your job. That might well give you the extra money, but its not certain, and you *want* that bonus for non debt stuff, don't you ....

It will happen, one way or another. And the mortgage is going down in tandem too.

The worst that will happen is that next year's bonus, if there is one, will clear the remaining debt.

that's not such a bad place to be, really, all things considered, and would still mean I am debt free this time next year.

And perhaps there would be enough left over from it for me to book a cheap holiday or something too.

So, that is my back up plan, but of course the more I pay off before then, the more of next year's bonus is mine and not barclaycards!

  • Hi Hypno. So pleased that all is well in your world. If anyone really deserved that bonus, it's you. It's so good to know that proper effort gets rewarded. Good luck to DD - my Ds has done 1 GCSE and 2 more to go, and had normal exams week this week. He's Yr 10 so this time next year......I'll be DF I hope and he'll be in the thick of his other GCSEs.

Funny how us DFWs are always looking forward - "this time next year".....so am now off to enjoy THIS weekend - and hope you do too.

    Well done again

At this point, I just don't know - I can't see immediately how I can conjour up that extra money consistently, and pay for the trip at Christmas, and cover any skiing that the children do over the winter.

At this point I wouldn't worry too much: something nice may fall in your lap in the future, or you may have a brainwave. Sometimes you need the 'rest' periods inbetween the periods of genius debt-busting to recharge your batteries.

Well done on getting this far, though! :T

Not quite sure you know what that means!

Congrats on the bonus tho, that is fantastic, must be such a relief to have paid off your Mum. I am aiming for a 1000 per month from July, but I only pay rent and have no kids, so it is far easier for me. And even I am not sure it is going to happen - too much house stuff

best of luck with your many calculations, am sure something will come up!

Ha ha Hypno, you are so funny :rotfl:. If anyone can conjure up money it's you :T

But the problem is, that I don't know if I have the energy to do it right now!

With everything else that is going on, I feel pretty flat most of the time, which I know is to be expected, but still is not a feeling I like.

Pickle, I know you say that something will come along, but it would have to be a pretty big "something" to cover all that! Remember that this time last year there were two of us to achieve all these big spends and debtbusting, and now there is only me. My SOA based on my salary covers my mortgage, min debt payments and household bills, but doesn't cover petrol, food, bus fares etc. For those, I rely on the maintenance from OH (£260) and child benefit (£135), so you can see that there is not a lot spare for skiing, holidays and having fun, not to mention debt busting.

Anything extra has to come from exactly that, extras, and 10p scratchcards daily don't really cover it! Mystery shopping has all but dried up here, and matched betting is becoming more fiddly as they restrict the times that you can bet etc, so I really am not sure.

For the first time since I started this journey, I am seriously wondering about just letting things take their course, working only to deadlines like 0% balance transfer periods coming to an end.

    Bah, I just don't know :o:(

Even if you do "just let things take their course" you know you will be debt-free before very long. It's a huge improvement from the situation you were in three years ago. And a lot can change so I vote you cut yourself some slack while you are in this low patch. Your regular payments alone are bringing the debt down steadily so stop worrying!

  • I am having a sort of similar moment here. If I keep paying off the loan at the rate I am now it will be finished in about a year. However if I bust my butt it *could* be gone by dec...........

I hate the debt so MUCH. I can't afford to run two houses with it, which is effectively what I would do if I moved out. so the quicker the debt goes the better cos then I can move out, but meanwhile I have no life to speak of (well ok I do go out more now or did, driving lessons have that money) and am living in a house that needs stuff doing to it and the stuff it needs doing to it will get worse and cost more money if I leave it.

Pants, this conversation is running around my head.

I need to clean out the guineapigs.

I am sure this doesn't help you hypno, sorry xxxx
