The decluttering is great - for me, there are two elements to it - the easy one is "I have a lot of space for one person, I won't think about whether I want this, I'll just hold onto it" - that kind of stuff can go pretty easily. But the other is sentimental - the table that was bought for 2/6- in Paddy's Market by my grandad, the straw hat that I wore to Buckingham Palace to get my gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award (just put that in the charity shop bag yesterday) the aluminium frying pan that my dad took a power drill to (cos it was so dirty) when I went to my first student house (ditto for the charity bag).
Is it too late to suggest take a photograph of the hat, or are there photos in your possession, or somewhere in the family, showing you wearing it?
I photographed my "rare as rocking horse manure" Nirvana record (1000 pressed, black vinyl 7" single) before selling it to pay the credit card bill:D‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

shortbird, thats a really sweet thought, thank you! There is a photo of me in the forecourt of Buck Palace with my mum, and I just had a look at it (scanned) - and its not the same straw hat! So I don't care about it, frankly. What I *do* care about, and what I'm going to take a photo of exactly as you suggest, is the frying pan, believe it or not. I have the memory very vividly, I can see my dad in the back yard now, and the power tool he had (whatever it was!) whirring away cleaning this blackened **thing**, that turned into this frying pan suddenly! The horrifying thing is, he was then years younger than I am now :eek:2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Get those running shoes on then - it is a great head clearer too!short_bird wrote: »Um... did you see Hypno's comment on running earlier in the thread?
But when I stopped running, I put on a stone and a half.....so perhaps the running was not helping me lose any because that was the weight I was supposed to be at - it definitely changed my shape and of course my fitness was a lot higher than it is now, so even if the scales didn't say otherwise, it was definitely good for me and helped me look leaner!
KC. re the frying pan - that is the sort of thing that would happen in our family tooSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I know Shortbird, I just mean in oder to get my knackered metabolism somewhat functioning again, diet alone wont work.
I have been running again Hypno-need to build up to at least 5 days a week...small matter of a marathon or something I seem to have enteredEmpty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
Just done a catch up of epic proportions!
Well done on your many, many achievements over the past few weeks :T there seems to be too many to mention!
Quite strangely unrelated to the ongoings on your thread, I've been cutting down on my caffeine and sugar intake and having spurts of ruthlessness with my decluttering! There must be something in the air!Pround to be dealing with my debts! DFW Nerd # 1201

El, I wasn't able to keep away from it unless I stopped every form - cake, biscuits, sugar itself, sweets, chocolate, everything; the only sweet stuff I had was dried fruit, and manuka honey. And what does help, alittle bit anyway, is to have strong flavours - whether savoury or sweet.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hi everyone
Satchmo - just had to reply - I have not been tested for this but am back at the doctors (again) next week and will be asking about this. I read up on it the other day - great minds think alike and all that. I can definitely tick several of the boxes - only trouble is the main reason that I finally went to the docs is not on the list so i don't know if i'll be able to persuade them to test me for this.Thank you so much for reading my post though and the reply

We're home - there were thousands of people out, and the rain stayed away, so all good there. Grabbed a bite of pasta to eat while we were out so no need to cook now - even better....and still healthy
Got home to find £30 of M&S vouchers waiting for me on the doormat, from when I took out my new life insurance after OH left.....I had completely forgotten about them, so it was a lovely surprise :T
And, I have been offered a nearly new washing machine to replace mine that is more than temperamental, and which requires draining manually after each load......it will cost me £80 which is much cheaper than a new one, and no more expensive than calling out an engineer to try and fix my (much) older one
All in all a good day! Hope it has been good for all of you xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
