That sounds great, Hypno, about the windows - and the Queen! I did shake hands with Phil the Greek when I was doing the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, way way back when, but never the Queen. And your sig, by the way, looks completely amazing! You really are on the up and up.

Sounds good! We had someone similar last year who totted it up quickly and was £1200 cheaper than the quote we got last month

When are you getting them done?

We got our windows replaced a few years ago and the 'you buy one, you get one free' gave us a quote for one new bay window, three new large normal windows and a new front door. How much would you think?

 TWENTY THREE THOUSAND POUNDS!

I don't even have words to express what rip-off merchants they were!

Hypno - one of your threads about a year ago mentioned the need to replace windows and I think sort out the drive - it sounded spookily like my house. In December we could wait no longer we either had to replace the windows in our daughters room or let them fall out. We found a local company we liked, then shopped around, then went back to the local company we liked - who were happy to do just the two windows (cost £2400 for two 72 in wide, 48 inch drop windows).

When we are debt free we will replace the others but we got far more pleasure out of this replacement than I could have imagined as we have not spent anything on the house since we started debt busting. I thought the house would look odd with 'different' windows but it looks fine, and a heck of a lot better than the scruffy windows we replaced.

Good luck - and well done on the weight loss, to add to the rest of your achievements.

Morning, the bogof ones were the cheapest for us as we had 5 windows and 2 doors. But MIL had to come over after the first day as the fitter got a little bit too close when we were looking at DS window

Found out what has happened with Lspeed - their fancy new fraud system has deleted our accounts saying we were breaking T&C for having multiple accounts - it didnt work out that i had one and DH had his own to do. Really p####d off as we should have had about £8 to go to paypal. Bet I don't get it back. A polite email has been sent back to them

That's a pain, pippa - I hope you get it sorted soon and manage to get your money out.

Re the windows, I made it quite clear when I rang for the appointment that I didn't want to be ripped off, just wanted a bottom line price, and that I have enough in my life right now to be dealing with, without hard sell salesmen! It was a local company with a good reputation that I asked around, so I definitely think that makes a difference.

Midweek already.......and I think the guys will be back to do more of the garden, so it will be interesting to see what is done today when I get home.

Off to scratch and bank, now, have a good day everyone x

Have a good day too, lets hope the garden takes another big step today, it sounds like they did so much last week!

They sound like a good firm - I think the doors really affected the price, but I know these firms are desperate for trade as they do not have the new builds as a permanent backup anymore. Like you say, they will either be better for you if you stay or make it easier to sell, so its a benefit either way.

Well, today they are tackling the front garden, so hopefully it will have some "kerb appeal".....as well as not letting the neighbourhood down! At the moment ours is the "shabby one on the corner" :o

Pippa, our back door was replaced when we first moved in, and our front door can get away with a rub down and a coat of paint, so we can save money there.
