I have been doing some more thinking......about my surroundings this time. I need this place to be nice, managable and a home for the three of us that we can relax in and not be constantly stressing about the things that need doing.

So, the guys that do the neighbour's garden have just been round and we have arranged for them to come and tidy up the outside of the house - all the frontage, the gravel driveway that is overgrown with weeds, the borders and the back garden. It isn't going to be overly cheap, but once the initial work is done, it should be very easy to keep on top of whereas now I am a little daunted by it all!

And, I have been looking into the cost of a cleaner - I am thinking very seriously about this. I would be more than prepared to use my MSE money to cover the cost I think, and when the house is clean and tidy, my mood lifts incredibly, compared to where it is cluttered and a mess.

I know it is expense in an already tight budget, but buying the PC and laptop out of MSE money has proved to me that I can do the "extras" without it impeding on our ability to eat and put the heating on. And I really do feel that being comfortable in our surroundings is very important to all of us.

I gave up my last cleaner when I joined MSE over 3 years ago, and as you all know I have desperately tried to do the job myself but constantly fail. I'm not sure that I can really afford it either, beanie, but I have decided that the time has come to give it another go. If I can make enough from MSE stuff to keep the house and garden tidy, then I think that is a pretty good way of getting the balance right.

But if it looks as though I can't afford it, then sadly it will have to come to an end again.

I've just called someone with a good reputation locally - she is fully booked but has taken my number to let me know when she gets a slot come free. So, I will prob just wait until I hear from her, rather than try and find someone I know nothing about. That has the effect of also giving me time to chip away at the clutter in the meantime too!

I haven't got one yet, lucielle, so nothing to be jealous of just yet - and I am sure you wouldn't be jealous of the size of my ironing pile!!

I agree with your thinking, Hypno - you *can* make enough money for extras by doing mse stuff - and yet, in the same time, you struggle to do housework, and don't like it when you do (or is that me .....). Anyway, yep, totally see where you're coming from.

Yup, you're right KC - I like a tidy house and garden, but I don't like doing the work itself. I do try, and l like seeing the end result, ie the tidy house, but I just don't have the oomph that I need to keep on top of it as much as I should/would like. Other people I know somehow manage to keep a fabby house, as well as being a working mum etc, but my house is more like one of those on the sitcom "Life of Riley" or "Outnumbered", although thankfully not quite ready for "How Clean is your House" :o

I have made quite a bit of progress on my own, though, but it is not enough to be considered a success! I still suffer from CHAOS syndrome :o

Well, just realised its my hairdressers 9am Sat so will be thinking of you hypno whilst sipping my cappo! and Mrs R. I have a bob a bob a bob lol! Its a graduated bob at that but I am growing it out for my holidays :)

As for a cleaner/gardener I can empathise because a messy environment definitely impacts on my mental health - I cant concentrate on other stuff until these 3 boxes are ticked - sad but true - its a control thing I suppose, we had a cleaner for a short time but they were part of a large company and I was never happy with the finished job and resented paying my hard earned cash (i'd increased my hours at work to pay for them!) and I discovered we aren't mucky just messy! and cleaners don't go into the pit that is DS2 bedroom, sort out the 'man' drawer nor do they tackle 5 baskets of washing/ironing, empty/load the dishwasher - unless you pay them extra of course!

Of course, its each to there own & I actually like doing these jobs its just I don't always have the time to do them, it would be different if I didnt have time and hated doing them. Sermon over - sorry! cgx
