  • Well I've sat down and had a look at the finances and all in all things aren't looking to bad for this month. I'm really hoping if I'm very tight with things I can actually have paid off the laptop and not have to go any further into my OD this month:D

I'm actually quite chuffed with that as things have been a little tight recently now i'm paying for the house on my own. I need to work out a more exact budget once i've got used to the costs just for me but will wait a couple of months.

I am hoping to have the OD cleared by the end of November, which will only leave the interst free barc CC to save to pay off which is due end of Aug 2011 so plenty of time for that one which I also intend to stooze money on. :rotfl::rotfl:

Feel much more positive today after spending most the weekend wallowing in self pity:eek::eek:

  • Being mortgage free is obviously a great target but dont get fixated on it - remember that any other debts are almost certain to be more expensive in terms of interest...

aww hun, I didnt even know you had split from your partner, did this happen when I was away? Sorry I havent said anything about it.

I do it all on my own too and I am actually much better off financially than I ever was with my ex. Its great to have complete control of things. The ONLY thing I hate is having to do or arrange all the DIY etc. I hate it, but I love being on my own. (have been now for nearly 5 years on and off ;))

If you need to let off steam hun pm me.

And remember to get all your cards and other things sorted out first before you start on the mortgage. Is the mortgage just in your name? I was lucky that mine was.

Thanks pammy, happend about a month ago, you probably were on your summer break then!! I'm doing OK but have my moments, we are still sorting everything out at the minute.

The house is in joint names:mad:, but as its in negative equity (and the split is amicable) we have decided to hang onto. He is going to move out and rent elsewhere and I will stay on my own. The mortgage is being transferred to interest only to minimise the complications. This means I will be saving the capital element and that will just be in my own name. So when I do decide to buy the house off him I can just pay into the mortgage then.

In terms of the cards, we have cleared the joint one:D Now just got my OD to clear. I have a new barc card that I am using to stooze money for the next year (as interest free until Aug 2011).

So the aims are, to save as much as I can and clear the last little bit of debt. Will also be looking for a lodger at some point, just to help me out and have bit of company. This should mean I will be saving a decent amount each month. Will set exact targets once I have a better idea of where i'm at.

Hey, y'know what? It doesn't matter where you have started, only where you finish. Well done for sorting out everything you've sorted out, and here's to your final finishing!

  • Hello,

As the name suggests I am a secret squirrel who has been reading lots of diaries but only just started posting! Some of your comments rang a bell - You asked, 'How do you ever know what's right?'. And the answer is that you don't! My first husband (together for 20 years) was the one for me and for the first 10 years I knew it was right. And then it wasn't. And it took me ages to realise why I was so unhappy. Like you, being single was hard but I enjoyed being my own boss and organising my own life. And now I am married again to someone who isn't a control freak (he leaves that to me...) and I have remembered what it is like to be really happy. You'll never know what is right and you will never know what is round the corner. I wish you lots of luck and all power to your MFW quest.

  • Just caught your news today about your break up. What a shame. I am glad to see you have such strong plans for moving forward. Things can only move forward.

I too would have gone and got a new laptop straight away. Nothing worse than being cut off from the online world when we use it like we do. Look on it as it will pay for itself over time through surveys and the likes.
