Kwik Fit - What Can I do

The car was taken to kwik fit to check the back brakes. After taking one back wheel off which did not have a wheel lock nut they attempted to take the other off but couldn't because it did have a wheel lock nut so they then put the wheel they had taken off back on. The braking system went after the wheel flew off at 70mph and due the the scraping along the road and brake fluid lost I guess. I do hope that is clearer.0

My partner is a named driver on my insurance policy. The road rescue used was Green Flag. I am also surprised that no accident occured.0

I am pretty sure that if I was driving the car things would not have ended as they did. I would not have had a clue what to do if my brakes had gone and the hand brake ceased to work.
Then I suggest you don't get back behind the wheel until you do.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

An older car with single line brake pipes will lose all foot braking with any leak.
Air Guns have a built in torque so you cant over tighten the wheel nuts.......unless the used a Spider Wrench.0 -
id have let them sort it out ...your insurance will go up no end now youve got them involved0

I have an understanding of physics obviously...i didnt study that for my trade though....please dont be so arrogant to assume that no one else but you understands the basic principle of it.
I certainly do not think that, Im sure 99% understand this basic issue, that is why I did not even mention it until you stated that there is no way it can happen and you requested more information, my answering your request and correcting your further challenges should not be deemed to be arrogance.0 -
Don't understand why everybody says it is impossible for the wheel to fall off.
Years and years ago I was driving my Mini along at about 20mph when one of the rear wheels came off and overtook me rolling down the road.
I think I must have not tightened the wheel nuts properly a few days before, and they had vibrated off, one at a time. But the point is, I only felt anything wrong for a couple of seconds prior to the wheel going. So it certainly is possible for the driver to not notice until the last few seconds that the wheel is loose.0 -

Happened to me once in a Talbot Samba.
Up till the wheel fell off, the car was making a noise. The sound is unforgetable and has saved me twice since stopping to check wheelnuts due to unusual noise after having the wheels off.
Whenever I have a wheel off these days I pay extra attention to road noise (turn the radio down even) and check for tightness after a couple of short journeys.0 -

70mph is 70mph, the forces created are the same on road or on track, it is not the road conditions or driving habits that are affecting the parts, the studs are made plastic when tightened and shear in rapid order whilst at speed.
Very easy to understand especially when talking about old bolts that have been cycled many many times by numptys with air guns.0
