My last bulbs were the "Ring ultra xenon", I actually ordered the next bulbs down but they sent me the wrong one's :p

They lasted 2 years before the passengers side went, I use my lights pretty much all the time when the sun isn't beaming down.

The replacements were some cheapo things off ebay for £7 a pair, bit of an experiment to see what the difference was..... Result = distinctly yellow light, which seems but probably isn't less bright.

What I don't get with these upgrade bulbs is if you do the maths, the claims don't make sense.

    12v @ 55watts

    That's 4.58 Amps per bulb.....

Now, there are two forms of energy loss in an electrical bulb.... Heat and light.... SO unless these upgrade bulbs run cooler it's scientifically impossible to output more light without using higher wattage bulbs.

This is why energy saving light bulbs are so good, they convert power to light with very little wastage in the form of heat. An energy saver bulb (40w equiv) uses around 8watts of power to produce 8watts of light, while standard a filament bulb outputs 8watts of light and a massive 32watts of heat.

I personally wouldn't trust anything bought on Ebay. Most of it is secondhand and even the Ebay stores don't give a monkies!

I have been using eBay since the year 2000, never had a problem, you just need to check out the seller's.

Ebay is full of rubbish, yes..... But if you know what your doing, it's not an issue. These were brand new in a shrink wrapped plastic box.

I never buy on title or pictures alone.

If I can't see a photo, I copy it out of ebay and image enhance it to see what it really looks like.

I never buy popular items like Ipods, Iphones and satnav's.... The counterfeit market always aims at popular products.

When buying from China I always check for other sellers with the same product, so I can get more info and more photo's... I then buy from whoever has the best feedback ratings.

I normally only buy new items.....

Most recent bargains, a new outdoor light for my front door recess... Ex "Focus DIY" stock, slightly damaged box, unopened and unused for £8.95
A pair of genuine 2009 Merrell trainers, unused in box (pictures confirmed this) with a RRP of £68, but no longer stocked in shops (i really wanted them), bought on Ebay for £15.
Then 3 years ago £750 worth of brand new AEG stainless steel fridge/freezer, damaged stock (slight scratch/dent), £260.

In fact my entire kitchen was fitted out with top notch stainless steel "white goods" for the price of the lowest budget stuff in the high street. Saved around £2000 on all that just buy using Ebay and/or buying online.

Total to date = 570 purchases, 2 lost parcels, 3 items that were not as described and 5 items which I thought "hmmm I wish i'd gone to the shop and spent the extra".
No problems at all with high value items (I class as £50+).

People only get ripped off on Ebay because they're too lazy to do all the checks and because they're trying to save money on something which is so popular (in demand) that you can't realistically get it any cheaper.

  • wow thread revival.

i hate projection lights that give a tint of blue purple and pink, you can buy imitation bulbs that gives the impression but i see them as a silly MOD a few people in my area have them only takes one corsa to show them off and every other wants them.

the real things blind the hell out of me they mayaswell just drive around with full beam on.

i'm pondering on a set of bulb upgrades but havent decided what ones.

^^ My Vectra has projection headlamps, they're crap.... The cut off point is so extreme that you can't see much further than a few car lengths, but the road within that range is lit up like a Christmas tree!
Fitting brighter lamps just increases the contrast between the dark and light patch, in effect making it worse.

I think what you mean is the standard HID headlamps fitted to "prestige" cars (with or without projection) and aftermarket HIDs fitted to modified boy-racer mobiles???

It sounds like the headlight aim needs adjustment.
