OSRAM "Night Breaker" headlight bulbs

Are OSRAM "Night Breaker" headlight bulbs as good as they claim?
They claim to produce 90% more light, 10% more white light and a 35m longer beam. Have any of you fitted these and, if so, were they that good?
Specifically, the combined main/dipped H4 bulb.

:T nice one!!!!!!! cheered me up that has! ive been looking at most of the threads and most are pointless and i begun to think no one had any real cause for advice.
i replace the standard bulbs for the philips extreme one's everytime i have a new car, they last (if you dont touch the bulb when fitting oils from the skin shortens the life of any bulb). i also change the indicator bulbs (if the indicator are clear lenses one not yellow or have yellow caps around the bulbs) with the RING RW3581 BA7 enigma bulbs, they give a really nice look in the headlamps!
also thos who have the bmw mini with the lexus clear rear lenses change thos horrid yellow bulbs that you can see with the enigma ones and see how it transforms the whole look of them!!! and the front indicators!!!0 -
I just bought some Philips xtreme seem to do what they say on the tin.

ive ran the phillips and osrams , both make a big differance in performance and are well worth getting
i think the failiures are just a downside of the extra performance0 -
I got the Osrams and have been happy. They have been in about 6 months maybe now.
You cna tell how much better they are than the standard ones that came on my Astra. I replaced one which had blown and then a couple of days later I replaced the other as the light was a different colour and a lot brighter coming out of the new one.
Picked them up on ebayI beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Philips too in both vehicles, must be well over two years now with both not a problem and big improvement over standard.0

Yep, I bought nightbreakers too, for H1 they were half the price of the Phillips Xtremes, so even if they last half as long it's good value :rotfl:
Much better than the standard candle in jars manufacturers give out.0 -
I have had Phillips X-Tremes in my car for about 2.5 years and Osram Nightbreakers in my wifes car for almost as long.
In terms of performance they are both about the same, much better than standard bulbs, would not be without them, but not as good as "real" HIDs / Xenons.
The other thing both these bulbs have in common is life expectancy, on our cars both doing about 14,000 miles a year with similar amounts of night driving you get around 18 months out of a bulb.
It's not really money saving unless you compare it to the typically £800 bill for having full xenons added to a factory order car.
I really want the extra whiter light output so will continue to pay out for them.
Beware of cheap imitations from China that last about 10 minutes.... you have been warned.0 -
weird this should come up after i just replaced mine after reading a WHICH magazine test .
They compared various bulbs against a Astra's standard bulbs .
The Osram nightbreakers were a best buy , but Standard Bosch bulbs outperformed them a lot on dipped beam and matched them on full beam .slighty more expensive though .
Phillips bulbs did well but could not beat the the above 2 and were a lot more expensive . Halfords own bulbs did poorly for what they cost .
just replaced mine with Bosch standard bulbs ( from Halfords) and can tell the difference in the country lanes in the dead of night .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
