I am at a loss to understand this neutral feedback

I assume something went wrong when I see a neutral. It's part of the "not good" feedback package that I look at on goofbay.

I know someone who always leaves a 3 on DSRs unless things were stunningly amazing or desperately awful and he leaves a lot of neutrals as well despite knowing that it makes most people unhappy. They are wrong to feel that way you see. ;) He's also one of those people who when someone says they're going to fetch a jumper automatically replies "It's not cold". It's not "logic". it's a toddler-like inability in some people to accept that there is a world of dizzying variation beyond their own personal perceptions.

Whilst being able to see the sense of the "neutrals are not bad they're neutral" argument I would also like to remind people that it's not just your perception of the situation that matters. Other people are not wrong to feel differently from you, and in this case you are the minority.

The general perception is that neutrals are bad - no matter how many times someone says "it's illogical captain - I don't think they are are: ergo they're not."

Yes, I'm aware. Neutrals still aren't classed as good by eBay. They may not make your score go down, but people still generally see it as bad, but not quite bad enough to be a negative.

I'd be unhappy if I'd got a neutral without an email first, for me to put the issue right.

I assume you people saying neutrals are fine would all be happy to get one? Well, you carry on with that, and I'll carry on still thinking it's not a good thing to give one.

I'm exactly the same. I sell things on ebay and if I received a neutral with just the words 'ok' then I would be wondering too.

I want people to be extra happy with their items and if they are not I want to know why so I can rectify the situation. I would be upset if someone didn't email me first and just gave me a neutral.

Yes neutrals may not affect the percentage of feedback however I would rather the neutral be a positive!

I wish it were just a matter of a few more sales but that 1 in the neutral box is going to sit there for a whole year, taunting me ;)

I did wonder if she just didn't like it but that's no reason to leave a neutral for someone. She has a score of 130 so she's not new at this.

I responded in my feedback about being sorry she wasn't pleased and that she could have contacted me to sort it out.

I would like her to reply to my email but I don't think she will.

I also don't see why recycled packaging should put people off, it was perfectly respectable and it means she didn't get charged for it. I got lots of stuff in all manner of packets, even tesco carrier bags and they still charge but I just mark down their stars - not for the bag but for charging for it - and go elsewhere the next time- the way you would if you were shopping on the high street.
I use heavy duty recyclable bags (eg Tesco 10p kind), but package very securely, and had someone moan at me for using a bag and apparently charging too much postage costs....she got 2 items (worth about £10-15 in total) plus postage costs for about £8 total (and I gave her more than my normal second item discount!). She actually left me two positives, but put her snide comment about postage costs in among one of the positives (giving me no chance to respond!). She left the feedback comments before giving me a chance to respond to her moaning email too! Pa'h, some people never happy!

Where do you get this idea from that a neutral is bad or that it means she wasn't happy?
You really need to think about how you are harming yourself with this nonasense.
She was obviously ok with the sale as she said so. And a neutral doesnt affect your score.
    Good grief.

You obviously don't sell a lot on ebay. I would feel exactly the same and wonder what I'd done wrong.

Leaving a neatral with the words 'ok' isn't particarly good, and the OP obviously gives a sh*t about her customers and feedback to be worried about it.

I recently sold a fairly low value item on ebay. I had a message asking if I would send to Bulgaria, I thanked them for their interest but said that I only ship to the UK. They messaged me again saying they had bought from the UK before with no problems and checking their feedback they had, so I decided to chance it.

I weighed the item and quoted the exact postage of £7 odd. When I came to post it (the same day as payment made) the packaging had pushed it into the next bracket so it actually cost me £8 odd. The buyer received it within two days and the crazy mare marked me down on p&p (and every other category too!). The item was brand new so as described, very well packed, posted the same day, cost more to post than I charged them, ebay msg sent to thank them for quick payment, ebay msg sent to to say when it had been posted, feedback left for them straight away - what more could I have done!
