I am at a loss to understand this neutral feedback

As both a buyer and seller on ebay I have sympathies with both sides but I honestly don't know what I did to deserve a neutral feedback.

The item was a designer brand makeup brush with built in blusher. It was brand new and totally sealed - the wrapper went all over the product, absolutely no way in.

The buyer got it very reasonably priced compared to other sellers, I was happy to let it go at that price so she got a bargain.

Postage was at cost only. It was packaged well in clean but recycled materials and was sent the next day. I fully communicated throughout the process as I always do.

This was a few weeks ago. Then yesterday I see that she has left me neutral feedback with just the comment OK.

What is that supposed to mean?

As I said, I can see both sides of the picture but you do get a lot of bias of sympathy towards buyers on this website and I'd just like the same buyers to pause for a minute and see it from the other side. Is this really fair? If you have a problem with a sale approach the seller first. My feedback is, otherwise, full of remarks about my friendliness & helpfulness etc so its not as though they thought I might be an ogre.

Was it a new buyer? Maybe they are unfamiliar with ebay's feedback system? Have you checked their feedback left for others?

Maybe it got delayed in the post & that upset the buyer enough to leave a neutral, either that or they had bad day.

I do sympathise with you about how frustrating it must be to log on a find a grey blotch on your feedback.

I buy and sell too - but eBay needs to make the whole process fairer for sellers.
I'm actually thinking of putting a halt to selling after dealing with some very odd buyers recently; and one who was an absolute looney.
I notice that my 'star' for postage stands at 4.8 - strange as I always post the next working day after payment and ONLY charge the exact postage....?
I'm beginning to be on tenterhooks now when I sell, waiting for SNADs, chargebacks and unreasonable feedback.
All this recently after nearly 8 years on eBay and perfect feedback / dashboard.

A colleague always gives neutral - ie all was OK. If someone gave exceptionally good service or exceptionally bad service to him, then they got pos or neg appropriately.

    I totally understand that actually.
I'd leave neutrals more often if it was socially acceptable- most sales are neutral.
However, at the moment it's not seen like that, just as three stars can be very damaging.

I wouldn't worry too much though OP, at least it doesn't affect your percentage (oh and Norma a 4.8 star is really not that bad- you'll always get one or two people who get dispatch and delivery mixed up- grrr lol.)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

What a pr*t. That isn't how eBay works, negatives are bad.

Thanks everyone you've made me feel a bit better. :A

It gets you down a bit when you go out of your way to try and give the best service to them and that's the response you get.

I did check her feedback left for others just to see if she was a 'serial down marker' and she has left positive feedback for everyone else including someone where she said the item was faulty so goodness knows what I did to offend her!

It might be that it was held up in the post but I always email and tell my buyers when I've sent the item plus mark them as 'despatched' in the my ebay pages.

My 4.8 is for postage costs too Norma, and like you I only charge the actual postal charge. A fair few times they actually get it cheaper depends what kind of mood I'm in when I'm listing. I'm convinced that just they think its expensive without checking what they paid as though its our fault what the Royal Mail charges.

Lindens - please give your colleague a smack upside the head from me! That's quite often people's livelihoods he's messing with.

I have emailed her to say that I was sorry she was unhappy with the item and could she please let me know the exact nature of the problem to avoid any future disatisfaction but I don't suppose I will get a reply.
  • Maybe someone could write a succint explanation of feedback and stars/DSR's which all sellers could include in their listings.

No, forget that, some buyers don't even know how or when to pay! Let's not confuse them any further.

Could she have mixed you up with someone else?

I'd have to ask her. Otherwise it would burrow into my brain and drive me nuts.

I got a neutral a while back which said "Took nearly a week to get me this DVD!!!!!" (I'm paraphrasing.) Thing was...they hadn't bought a DVD from me! :rotfl:
