My understanding of EBICO is that Sept 1 2005 when they put up their prices they promised not to do it again for a year. Being a moral Christian organisation they obviously have to stick to it. Now they've been hit by massive rises in the winter, so they are probably losing money at the moment and so they will have to overcompensate come 1st September to make up for lost money now. So I agree with Xbigman. It may even be worse. I'm trying to escape from Npower who I eventually reported to Energywatch when they were charging me more than was shown on energyhelpline etc for supposedly the same tariff. The problem with escaping is that they paid their 60 pound rebate theoretically at the end of the first year , actually TODAY!, more like 18 months. At least with EBICO what you see is what you get and I can get out ASAP if the price rises are too much. I think I'll wait to September 1 and see if the dire predictions are justified. Else BG green click energy.

Not quite true. They only promised not to put up prices again for those who joined before 1 September. Lots of people have joined since then and all enjoy the same tariff regardless of how long they have been customers.

I think it more than likely that they agree a tariff for a set period of time with Southern/Scottish. However, as Scottish have probably been selling on to Ebico at a loss, we may get stung come September. So unfortunately, you could still be right but for the wrong reason:sad:

I`m hanging on to see what the increase MAY be in Sept.,then I`ll decide whether it`s worth switching from Pgen online tariff.

    Still confident?
  • I have been an equipower and equigas customer for just over a year and regardless of the pending price increases I have been happy. As a low user who fits the profile I am only charged for what I use unlike British Gas.

As a low user with British Gas (my previous supplier) I had little or no benefit from their dual tarrif charging structure and always had to query my bills. This would be the case on most other companies no standing charge dual tariffs so for me Ebico was the only company worth switching to. So yes the prices will go up but I personally prefer to follow a trend in increased costs rather than lead it like British Gas!

I think anyone who spends a month or more away a year would also benefit from Ebico charging structure even if they are a high user when at home. This does assume you remember turn your heating down or off when away.

With regard to Ebico customer service, I had to resolve an incorrect meter reading when I transferred, even though the difference was less than the level that would require a re-bill, the error was corrected on their side readily in contrast to BG.

To all those loyal British Gas customers out there who have recently had an accurate meter reading, submit your actual meter reading at least 2 days before the next price increase. Otherwise BG will estimate your usage before the latest price hike in their favour. The smart will add a bit for the 2 days before the increase. If you have online access to BG you can log a meter reading at any time otherwise you can do it by telephone.

For 'normal' electricity & gas they base the annual costs on a consumption of 3,300 kWh and 20,500 kWh pa respectively - these are the average figures for UK.

However it is difficult to understand the consumption figures on which the annual costs of their Economy 7 example is based.

It is for 3,300 kWh pa of which 55% is used at night on E7 rates. Now to use 55% on E7 you must have storage heating and will use way in excess of 3,300 kWh pa if you are an average user.

    Got your attention then.

Ebico have traditionally positioned themselves so their unit price has been quite dear but with no standing charge or higher tiers they worked out cheaper for low users. There are a lot of people switching to ebico right now who do not fit that profile but for who Ebico will be cheaper for a few months. Ebico should raise their prices in Sept, or at the least announce a price rise. Now if you look at the rises piled on by others in the last year you could reasonably expect to see Ebico announce a 40% gas rise and 30% electricity rise. I'm not kidding. My advice for anyone thinking of moving to Ebico now is to wait. For those who are already there, brace yourselves. I very sincerely hope the rise will be much less but I am being realistic.
