Beware Ebico...

Sure but isn't it probbaly down to the contract(s) they have made with the physical supplier, in many id not most cases SSE Group members. That they make annual revisions lead me to believe they make fixed contracts for a year at a time, so your fears may be largely unnecesaaryLinW13 wrote:Interesting thread...
I've been with Ebico for only 3 months, and I'm expecting a big hike in September. Just gone back to my spreadsheet and increased their unit prices (which were set in Sept 2005) by 40% for gas and 30% for elecricity. Compared to BG's dual fuel DD tariffs for MARCH 2006, I'll still save 5%. And since then BG have announced another big increase. So, price wise, I'm not too worried.
However, I do wonder how Ebico are financially situated. Bottom line is this... I don't know how they are managing to hold their prices, and that makes me uneasy.
I don't consider myself a scaremonger. I feel my concerns are legitimate.

Good if EBICO can keep their price increase to once a year.
Makes it a capped tariff, with the assurance of a fixed price or the opportunity to move somewhere cheaper.0 -
At 1.94 pence per KWH Ebico are fantastic value!
I am 99% certain there will be no increase from Ebico this year. I am also 99% certain that they will increase by a significant (20%+) in January. If you consider the average household uses 20500 KWH of gas, Ebico would have to increase its gas price by 77% to bring them in line with BG sept 06 price.
Electricity is a bit more complex due to geographical price differences however they will remain competative!0 -
77%? And they called me a scaremonger:p

Make Hay while the Sunshines. They cant possibly maintain their low prices for much longer in the present energy climate.
I considered moving to them but i was not prepared to take on the potential risks of dealing with a very small company for my energy supply.0 -

In reality, once you get past the initial application you are always dealing with Southern, or Scottish, which is a very big company.

My understanding of EBICO is that Sept 1 2005 when they put up their prices they promised not to do it again for a year. Being a moral Christian organisation they obviously have to stick to it. Now they've been hit by massive rises in the winter, so they are probably losing money at the moment and so they will have to overcompensate come 1st September to make up for lost money now. So I agree with Xbigman. It may even be worse. I'm trying to escape from Npower who I eventually reported to Energywatch when they were charging me more than was shown on energyhelpline etc for supposedly the same tariff. The problem with escaping is that they paid their 60 pound rebate theoretically at the end of the first year , actually TODAY!, more like 18 months. At least with EBICO what you see is what you get and I can get out ASAP if the price rises are too much. I think I'll wait to September 1 and see if the dire predictions are justified. Else BG green click energy.0
