You and me both Minnie....this is what I intend to do when I'm old and utterly shameless....and I feel there's a bit of our mad but fab Minnie in here too! Sorry it's a bit long!!!
****************************************When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me,
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens,
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickle for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats
and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We will have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised,
When suddenly I am old
and start to wear purple!Jenny Joseph0 -
Ah, freebird - I've long been a fan of that poem.
Not so far removed from my current behaviour, however! Especially the samples in shops bit - only that's called being an MSE! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome, we can spare it - yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on 40 - no electric shocks
The juice of the carrot, the smile of the parrot
A little drop of claret - anything that rocks
Elvis and Scotty, days when I ain't spotty,
Sitting on the potty - curing small pox
Reasons to be cheerful part 3
I hope you've all been reading LookingAhead's shiny new DFW diary? If not, get yourself over there... here's the link:

It's early days, but I think it's going to shape up to being a real goody. What I love about our LA is that she's so positive - no matter what. I think it may be infectious - because I've decided not to moan tonight, but to focus on the good things that have happened to me so far in 2006 (even though like many people, I'll be so flaming glad to see the back of it).- This year I have continued my college course and passed all my exams. I've done really well - I'm bursting with pride and still excited by it.
- I found this site - and it's kept me on track throughout the year with paying off my debt, even when the going got really tough at times.
- I discovered Stardrops and microfibre cloths and bought a slowcooker on the strength of what I read on the OS boards. If you've never been there, what are you waiting for?
- I've made a load of new friends - both here and in the "real world".
- Work has been fraught - read the whole thread if you don't believe me. But I've never been out for work for more than a few days and I've had some amazing experiences and learned a lot.
- I've got serious about the gym, lost a stone and can now get into a size 12.
- My hospital appointment finally came through (I waited two years) and now I'm hopeful that I will get well again.
- It's been a great year for music.
- I won the lottery (a bit!!)!
- I bought a new washer dryer - and thereby hangs a tale...
- More Vincent. :T
- I finally got a new hairstyle.
- I met ZTD - and he turned up with a dozen red roses on our first date (big aaaaah! factor - eh, ladies?).
Sadly, I won't be debt-free by my 40th next year (although another but bigger lottery win might just do it!). Will I ever be free?
Yes yes
dear dear
perhaps next year
[STRIKE]or maybe even never[/STRIKE]
Who cares "when"? I will be. End of.
Can't think of any other reasons right now. But I will.
Thanks for tuning in!

What...I missed something methinks you know how slow I am to catch up with everything.
Aww best of luck to you both :T0 -
Oh. My. God. No amount of subtle or even unsubtle hints has ever dragged flowers out of my beloved....but I won't whinge cos he has his moments....like bringing me Smartie Cookies when I was hungover on Sunday.
Well done you ZTD - we like a man who can do a bit of good old fashioned slushy romance!!!! May both your 2007s be sooooopah!
Somehow I had a feeling you would know that poem Minnie.....and I too have been practising parts of it happily for years...and long may we continue to do so!!0 -

Flowers were a cracking start, however! :T
freebird - I see a day when we'll be two mad old ladies in red hats and purple underwear terrorising Ray at the local old folks' home.

ROFLMAO!! Oh yes.0 -
I hate purity
Hate goodness
I dont want virtue to exist anywhere
I want everyone corrupt
How kind of the lovely Manics to include my thoughts on housework in Faster.
Yup, with the help of the OS board, I am attempting to create order out of chaos. Me no like. Me rather read a book. Or go to the gym. Or stick pins in my eyes.
So I ran away and came here instead! Until I'm frog-marched back to the kitchen by the Virtuous People.
Can anyone explain the link between DFW and housework? It's not immediately apparent...
