I'll never buy from Comet again - health warning

Had a problem with an E-machines (Acer) computer bought from Comet. The hard drive failed after a month. Instead of going back to Comet, which is what I should have done, I rang the manufacturer's help line. They agreed to pick it up and repair. They picked it up OK the next day but, after 3 weeks, they still had not returned it because they hadn't got the correct drive in stock! (A trip to PC World would have got them one off the shelf)
I went back to Comet and complained. They said I should have gone back to them and they would have replaced it after only 4 weeks of use. They rang E-machines and got authorisation for a replacement there and then, which I took away with me.
Full marks to Comet - Nil points to me for going the wrong way about it.0 -
"In all fairness it should be well done to E-machines and well done to comet, e-machines could of said no to a replacement."
Somewhere along the line, I was entitled to a replacement machine after only 4 week's use. My dispute (in law) was with Comet but I did not have the computer in my possession for them to replace. In Comet's eyes, I could have sold it on and be pulling the wool over their eyes.
Comet could have said - Get the machine back and we will replace it - but, instead, they sorted it within 15 minutes of being told of the problem.
E-machines were dreadful. After three weeks of having the machine in their possession, they still could not replace a standard hard drive that I could have bought from any reasonably-stocked electronic retailer.0 -

I had the same problem with an Acer 5315 aspire Laptop, after a very short while it had broken down i got in touch with the retailer and they arranged through Acer for the laptop to be collected and repaired.
My suprise was when the courier company turned up and said said to me that they get a lot of these sent back to Acer, anyway the laptop was sent back to Acer and it was returned to us repaired after about eight working days.
As for Comet i have always found them easy to deal with if you have a complaint.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -

The one time I bought from Comet I had no problems. But I did buy a bosch Fridge-Freezer which is still going strong over 5 years later, so had no need for after-sales service.0 -

it seems to me you got on the defensive and came across abusive and thats why they threatened to call the police
all you had to do was send it in for a repairReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
1 original post - conplaining about Comet
17 (18 with me) follow-ups - mainly supportive of Comet
Guess the original poster is now in hiding!!!For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.
No one is listening until you make a mistake.0 -
Well, thank you all for your comments, it seems I was in the wrong and I humbly accept that.
My learn here - there is a difference between consumer rights and customer expectations. I guess I'd come to expect that the service I get from some other stores is the benchmark to follow.
And for the record Jamespir, neither I nor Mrs C (nor the staff) were abusive to eachother in any way. It was all done in an even-keeled manner, no voices raised. That's why I was so amazed that he even mentioned the police.0 -
Another one in support of Comet, I'm afraid! 7 weeks you might have had a shave of an argument... but 7 months ? No hope.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
