I'm tempted by the Sky HD+ offer, but many questions, from a Sky Virgin...

Hi
I'll start by saying I've never had a satellite system, so apologize if some of these questions are very basic. I've searched for an FAQ, but the current offer still confuses me a lot (although it seems to have reached the point that I do want to take it up).
We are a couple, living in a 4 bed house with 2 downstairs rooms. We currently have an HD TV with freeview, and freeview also (via little digiboxes) in three other rooms. The TV is connnected to a home pc network, and we often watch recordings from iPlayer on it. Two of the bedoooms aren't cabled for aerials, so have no TV.
I understand I need a dish on the house.
- Will I get any choice as to where it sits?
- And is it possible to get a less obtrusive one than the standard white one. I've read about brick coloured ones, and also ones like outside lights; can I ask for these?
- I've also read about people getting extra lines from their dish, so they can have freesat or extra Sky feeds into other rooms. How do you do this, and what should it cost? Is it wired, or wireless?
- The deal for HD+ at £28 a month seems unbelievably cheap, compared to standard Sky costs as it includes Sports and movie channels. Or am I missing something obvious (missing channels, or extra costs) here? Will I get all Premiership soccer, rugby and test cricket, plus a decent selection of recent movies?
- Is the cost guaranteed for the 12 month minimum contract?
- And if the costs increase to an unaffordable level after the 12 months, can I just downgrade to Freesat without needing to do anything else? Do I need to return the Sky+ box?
- I have an existing setup that includes connections to a BluRay player and a home cinema setup. Will the engineer who sets up the dish also set up the Sky+ connections and demonstrate its use?
- and the small print says it has to be connected to a fixed telephone line. My base connection for that is in a different room in the house, with DECT phones elsewhere; can the connection be via DECT, or will they have to run cables?
- and lastly (!) I see there is one month free Sky TV mobile included; how much is it to continue that subscription, and how "usable" is it, on an iPod Touch?
I'd be tremendously grateful for any response to help me decide.:A

Not sure what Sky deal you are looking at but £28 a month sounds like the Sky mix package, which doesn't include the Sports or Movies or HD channels.0

As eggy-hawkeye you will not be getting Sky Sports HD or Movies HD included in the £28 per month.
Whilst all the blurb about SkyHD says it includes Sports and Movies - to get them in HD you also have to subscribe to them as well (they're about £16pm each on top of the existing SkyHD subscription)0 -
As for your other q's:
We have a black dish, it needs to be located pretty near to where the main TV is so that a line can be fed from it into the house - not sure about other colours but it's worth a try.
The box is yours to keep with Sky, unlike Virgin who only rent you the box and then come to collect it when you cancel. You can also use the box as a Freeview box if you cancel completely.
You can downgrade your package at any time should it become unaffordable .:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Has anyone checked out this offer? The sky website seems to want to charge £49 for a sky+hd box where you dont take HD - or have i selected an incorrect option?0
-
When I looked on the website it is saying that without choosing HD, the box costs 49.99 and the setup is free. Yet, when I select that option it is charging me a one of charge of 79.99 (49.99 for the box + 30 for the setup). Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Doesn't look as good a deal now ....
Thanks0 -

$ky treat you as a number, nothing else. Their installer will be time pressured, and it is possible they will do the install their way.
Alternatives? Use a local, independent installer. It might cost more, but I think in your case it will be worthwhile, as you are obviously more discerning. Any dish with a universal LNB with at least 2 outputs will do. They come in all sizes and colours, but you may find it difficult to get small dishes (43cm) in other colours.
It is possible not to have equipment installed to a phone line: it will cost you an extra one off £25.RIP independent MSE.

No, that's right. The box is only free with the HD sub as you'll be paying £10/month for the HD channels. Without the HD sub, they want to recoup some of the box price back by charging £49 for it. The normal Sky+ box is no longer available, so they're trying to persuade you to take the HD package.Dave. :wave:0 -
So how does one get to a cost of £20.50pm all in - the email did specifically state that a Sky+HD box was included and the only way I can see to get to £20.50pm all in is if there was no £49 charge. I have reported this to the MSE team.0

i spoke to skyadvisors..& was told that i got to pay 70£as a one of fee not 39£ as mentioned in MSE ad....:(....
so no way its gonna be 20.50£pm .....:(0 -
