I have a perfect sized tupper box that when full of salad stuff and topped of with some cubes of tinned meat, cherry toms and cheese or boiled egg makes a great change from sarnie's.

It takes about 2 minutes to get ready in the morning or extra when boiling an egg :)
  • Wow HeadAboveWater i only have to make for 3 - keep buttering lol x
  • lol :) Working on getting DDs to make their own. Saves us a bit of hassle at least!! ;)

Back to OP - unfortunately we do sorta stick to the same old same old fillings. Although I find that even the bog standard boring cheese and ham sarnies can be made waaaaaaaaaay more tasty by spreading on a layer of 'sour cream and onion dip' or 'sweet chilli and red pepper humous' (both courtesy of Tesco's thank you very much!!), or similar :D

I hate it as well and have to do three lots. When I do the weekly shop I buy packs of sausage rolls/pasta salads/mini scotch eggs/cheese dippers add a quick pot of salad put into lunch boxes - done.

Only problem - cant afford to do it everyday, but it does give me one easy day and everyone seems to like this.
  • I have frozen chicken that I I mixed with tikka seasoning and I grab as much as I need and mix with a bit of mayo.
Tinned tuna always in the cupboard and sweetcorn I the freezer.
We freeze loafs of bread so when their is any offers on bread 2 for 1 it doesn't go to waste.
    I make cupcakes/flapjack etc on a Sunday

I just have to make it for the kids, OH takes frozen tubs of leftovers. The kids yawn about them sometimes but for DD the alternative is school dinners and for DS he'd have to pay for out of school lunches himself because I sure as heck won't. So they put up with the same four or five fillings/breads and I'm always willing to listen to new ideas. But tbh moans in this house about food tend to get short shrift, if I'm doing my best re choice and budget moans are not appreciated. And if someone eats their share of the bread before I do the sarnies well, tuuuffffff......

  • Frozen chicken seems the way to go - will search for cheapest and mix with mayo etc (they will think there luck is in its usually cheese or ham, or ham or cheese).

My favourite has to be marmite tho :D
  • Ive found if i make night before, thats a lot better and in a air free tub its fine, kids make their own on a sunday for monday and i do the other 4 days for three of us. kids have their quirks and dislikes, but fillings range from cheese, ham, turkey, cornbeef, tuna and sweetcorn mayo, egg and mayo, jam when im bored and cant be bothered, i just like cucumber and a bit of salad cream on mine sometimes or a bit of salad and s/c.

yes it gets boring making but theres not much alternative really, occasionally kids take money and get themselves something in school but not often.

I make ours while clearing up after dinner, it only takes a few minutes while Mr Pink and the kids are clearing the table and washing the dishes. Try these threads for ideas:

    Sandwich fillings

I'll add this thread to the first link later.
