Pretty much everything can be reheated in the microwave and still taste good, I've been taking wraps or salads and yoghurt and fruit now the warmer weather is here but I took batch cooking into work to reheat all through winter. My faves were chilli con carne, lasagne, cottage pie, stews, hm soup and hm bread, and of course the good old jacket spud and beans.

I sometimes take a packet of that flavoured cous cous as it only needs boiling water to be added. My son takes it cold for a change from sarnies and I add stuff like all the wee fiddly bits of chicken from the sunday roast and chop up sundried or cherry tomatoes, roasted peppers etc. Scrappy bits of lamb in the mediterranean flavour is very nice. The packs cost about 69p but are sometimes on offer at 2 for a £. Hope this helps.

Cous cous is an excellent standby if you run out of things that you've prepared to re-heat. No particular need to buy flavoured stuff though: put some cous-cous, stock powder, black pepper and any herbs you fancy in a plastic box and mix thoroughly. To make up, add about the same height again of boiling water 5 minutes before you want to eat it, and leave it covered whilst it stands.

You can microwave soup. A tin of soup can be a good stand by. You can microwave a jacket potato. This is very good if you are reheating one, otherwise I would say not nearly as nice as over baked, but edible and possibly better than sandwiches. Leftover chinese works well as do almost any other leftovers. Lasagne is my fave, too.

Just a tip for couscous, you can zap the dried stuff in the microwave for 10-20 secs to warm it up, so it cooks quicker when you add the hot water, if you are eating it at work hot from dried.

Cold pasta and couscous salads are my favourite, look and taste a million dollars, but cost next to nothing.

Whenever possible I cook extra to take in for lunches. Almost anything works - even leftover roast, if you have gravy to keep it moist.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • I normally cook extra meat or fish with dinner too, and keep salady stuff in the fridge to make into a lunch box. Recently been eating a lot of vac-pack cannellini beans, mixed with cucumber, vac-pack beetroot and either cheese or salmon fillets. I buy the frozen pieces when on special, roast or microwave, cool down and then flake into the salad. I really love this salad from the bbc site for salmon with chickpeas, is delish warm or cold http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/235606/salmon-with-warm-chickpea-pepper-and-spinach-salad

Recently I picked up a handy little salad bowl from poundland that has a mini tub in the lid for the dressing, is just right size for my lunch :)
I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Trying to find a work life balance...:rotfl:
