If you have access to a microwave, there really is no limit to what you can take - I deliberately make extra supper about once a week and the leftovers last us a few days, then have sandwiches or rolls the rest of the week. If there is really nothing to even make a sandwich with, a potato or two in the micro with a bit of butter and cheese is nice.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Thank you!!! Zippy, you're right, i will be reading for hours - maybe if i try one idea a day, they'll last me all school year

hi all
getting to be regular on the Debt Free Forum and looking for ways to cut costs.
One of my troubles is that i often work from different locations and stay at hotels. This means that i dont have the opportunity to make lunch and bring it in.
I generally have access to a supermarket but find i spend around £2-£3 maybe more and that is with me trying to save money!!! any tips/ideas for getting costs down?
(i have tried keeping cerial at work and just buying a pint of milk but just find it boring every day!)
thanks for any responses0 -
Hi, I'm guessing what you need are dried goods so a few suggestions might be value noodles (these can be very good and are filling) and snacks such as raisins or other dried fruit and nuts (it can be cheap if you get the right sort). Could you buy a bag of apples or other fruit to last a few days too? It's a bit more difficult to suggest sandwich or savoury alternatives, crisps are not very healthy and ryvita/crispbreads need something on them I find!Old-Style Enthusiast :j0

I agree on the noodles. My husband takes supernoodles to work and just uses water from the kettle to make them. The value ones are mega cheap.
Another easy one - good for protein - is tinned mackerel in tomato sauce/curry sauce. Open the tin and eat with a bread roll and some apples.
Packets of flavoured cous cous only need boiling water - not the dinky little packets - get a proper meal sized one so you don't go hungry.
Cup-a-soup?
If you have access to a microwave - Tin of soup? Pick the one with the ring pull. Those baked bean snack pots and a microwaved potato?
Oh and only take a pound into the shop with you... that way you can't buy more and you have to get creative!Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -
If you have a cooler bag. We boil pasta and add the asda chicken and bacon filler with sweetcorn. You can get about 3 days worth out of it depending on the portion size.0
