    Hi Jane,

There's a very recent thread on making lunches that has some links that may help so I'll add your thread to it to keep all the replies together.

I have decided that as I am home all day and we want to make moves to save money and loose weight as a family
I am thinking pasties , sausage rolls ( or someting other than sausage in a roll if you know what I mean)

I'd steer clear of pastry if you want to lose weight, it is half fat!! Sausages are also really fatty. Go for lean meat instead or chicken sausages in hot dog roll?? Although I should practice what I preach as have lbs to lose myself!!

  • After stealing lots of ideas from dinners under £x, I've had a look for a lunch time equivelant because lets face it sand-witches can get quite boring, but haven't found one.

    So what are your ideas?

I'm into soup at the mo, but need some more inspiration!

(sorry if there is already a lunch thread, if so pleease point me in the direction of it!)
One day, I AM going to be out of debt. I'm just not sure when.

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

I like some couscos mixed with a tin of mixed vinegaret beans. Yummy, or pasta with pesto and some pinenuts and cherry toms. (sorry about my spelling i know its awful!)
  • I like pitta bread and houmous... A pack of 6 pittas costs about 45p and lasts 3 days, and the houmous is about 1.50 I think!

I've just made a huge pan of soup with a big potato, onion, 2 leeks and about 6 carrots, plus a big handful of barley and bean mix. I cut all the veg up really finely and then added the pulses and just cooked it with stock for about 2 hours. Its made about 3litres and I'll freeze it in individual portions. It probably cost less than £2 to make and its made a generous and hearty 8 lunches (25p serving), with a slice of toast on the side.

    My current favs are:
Value spaghetti in tomato sauce on toast (home-made bread).
15p per tin, lasts 2 days so that's less than 10p for the meal!

Also I've been making this soup for a couple of weeks now and still haven't got sick of it ;)

Tinned sardines or mackerel on toast. They both come in several different sauces so you can ring the changes. Really good for you too, especially on wholemeal toast.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Yesterday I made for lunch (main meal in the evening) Bombay Potatoes.

2 value onions cut into long thin pieces
fried gently in small amount of oil.
Add a flat teaspoon of Tesco curry powder (or to taste)
    fry gently and then add
1 tin of value new potatoes cut into 4's longways, rinsed and dried
stir and fry gently for 5 minutes
add 1 tin of value chopped tomatoes, simmer for 5 minutes
taste and add salt to taste.
Simmer for another 5 minutes or until needed.
    Warms up well.

This gave 2 of us a lovely lunch. It is also 1 portion fruit and veg each.
