Feel a bit stupid asking for help considering she's nearly 3 3/4 :o but for 6 months I worked lunch-times and she ate at my nans then she went to nursery 3 full days whilst I was at college, so it's been nearly 18 months that it has been just me and her for lunch each day.

I'm just stuck on ideas. At this time of year I prefer something warm but DD prefers cold, which leaves me doing 2 meals which I don't really want to get into. She finishes nursery at 11.30 and we're at home 5 mins later, so time isn't an issue.

Hi Spendless, my ds is two and quite often we eat different lunches at the same time, for much the same reason as you!

Anything on toast normally goes down well with mine, as do crumpets or bagels with cheese/ cheese spread/ jam. Cinnamon raisin bagels with jam are particularly nice ;) (Bagels are expensive but I tend to stock up when they are BOGOF and half them before I freeze so I can take out just a half portion for the tiddler if need be)

How about soup or baked potatoes? Hummous and pitta? You can buy quick cook pasta from most supermarkets, it's done in 5 minutes. Me and ds eat it a lot with frozen peas and sweetcorn, some sliced olives and a good dollop of pesto.

  • our blades into crackers with cheese and ham atm... or soup.
does my bum look big in this sig?
  • Tortilla wraps with cream cheese and ham, you could cut into littler pieces for her. You could add other toppings, salad etc.

Home made pancakes yummy, a nice treat. Scrambled eggs, omelette, beans on toast, grilled sausage sandwhich.

Thanks for this thread - I found a similar problem with my DS who is the same age.

We have soup and pasta quite often - great way to get hidden veg into him. Veg sticks and dip (cream cheese or hummos or sour cream) are popular. Lots of fruit. Biscuits and cheese. wraps with ham, turkey, tuna, etc. Toasted muffins.

    Good luck. Punky

:hello: Wholemeal Pitta bread with cold chicken, mayonaise and any other salad fillings are very nice.

Or you could warm them in the toaster and fill with grilled sausage or bacon some lettuce and cherry tomatoes.

3 days of the week my dd, also 3, eats a packed lunch. One day is at the gym when we hang around after swimming, the other 2 are days when he is at preschool in the morning and then nursery in the afternoon.Ihave to leave work, race backto get him from oreschool, take him home for lunch, hurry him along (sigh), then drop him at nursery before heading back to work. So lunch has to be quick and easy on those days, and are generally a lunch box. The other 2 days I try and do a hot meal.

The lunchbox usually has around 5 items from this list:
    - a sandwich / bap- tina and grated cucmber/ham/cheese
    - a piece of fruit - banana/pear/grapes/satsuma
    - some cheese cubes if his sahndwich was meat/tuna (baby bel was too dear)
    - a pepperami/coctail sausages/ham if his sandwich was cheese
    - yoghurt/breadsticks/biscuit - thought I have to hide the biscuit or he eats it first.

He LOVES his lunchbox and gets so excited. I bought it in Asda for a couple of quid, the box has two clasps that go over the lid so he can open and close it himself.
If I just put in 3 bigger items he would get ored, this way I guarantee he eats enough and has food from all the groups.

For the hot lunches we have
    - pasta with tomato based sauce and tuna and sweetcorn
    - scrambled egg and beans
    - beans on toast
    - cheese on toast
    - pizza

Our hot meal at lunch list is quite limited but he won't eat potato or soup or tortillas or most toast or boiled eggs but is a big fan of bread hence the sandwiches. Plus I think its good practice for when he goes to school, he will totally be used to his wee lunchbox !
