i think you are just being rude and obnoxious now, there is no need for that attitude. Ther majority of people on here have not had a problem and you will find most websites now operate on the 1024x768 resolution. as Martin has stated before they do not have a problem on their machines so it is hard for them to identify the problem, why dont you just try to change your resolution and see how you get on, instead of throwing all your toys out of the pram.0 -
purplepatch wrote:I've tried amending the resolution but it messed up other applications such as Outlook and stretched them out so that I can't see the whole screen as it's fallen off the screen. Also as previously mentioned by another poster, the text becomes so small at that resolution that it's uncomfortable to read and nothing you do makes the text bigger. I therefore switched back to 800 by 600.
Actually I have managed to switch to 1024x768 and then altered the screen auto adjustment manually on the monitor so everything now fits ok.
Saying that, the text is still tiny, so if anyone can advise how to rectify that I'd be grateful. I guess its because my monitor is quite small (12 by 9 inches) and there isn't much I can do about that0 -
Divadee, thoughout all of this, I have been reluctant to say anything, simply put up with the inconvenience. However, as a number of others had made the observation, I felt I would make mine. Equally from PM's received, I know others were mindfull of the situation. I suppose it is also fair to say there are those who are sitting back, allowing others to fire the proverbial bullets. Next time I will join those. To the best of my knowledge, I have chosen words carefully, taking care to continue to praise this site, and will continue to do so.
As yet, no one has been prepared to state that by altering our settings, we will not loose or suffer problems with other sites.
If we lived in a perfect world, we wouldn't have problems, but we don't live in a perfect world, hence problems.
In my opinion it is wrong to make sweeping offensive comments to users of this site, after all, my back is broad, but there are those members of this site who may not be able to take your rude offensive remarks, and as such, may look elsewhere for the information that Martin collates for us. No doubt you feel ashamed. I think an apology is due, not for me, but for others and the way you have shown yourself up. I have been seriously considering making a formal complaint at your remarks. My settings were on 800 x 600.
I changed them to 1024 and had a job to read anything.
I then went into "view" and changed text size from "medium" to "largest".
It helped a bit, but not enough to comfortably read the forums.
I have reverted back to 800 X 600.
Oh well, seeing that this is the only forum I have this trouble with, I guess I shall keep on scrolling.:)Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -
I too tried changing my screen resolution to the 1024 x 768 but cannot read it as the font is so small and when you try to increase the font size I have had problems.
I can only assume that all the machines in the office are using lovely big monitors whereas mine is a little 15". I can confirm that the scrolling is annoying and I don't have to do this on another website I use often that uses the same software.
edited to add: the beige panel on the left hand side does seem wider again. When it was first introduced and there were complaints the size was reduced slightly whereas on this software it appears to be larger again?0 -
I've just come accross the width problem for the first time this morning.
If you look at page 4 of the "Free Adult Mag"discussion on the Freebies board the page goes off the edge of the screen (or is it just me?). Some of the posts contain large text and graphics. Maybe this is a clue. I haven't noticed it anywhere else. All the other pages in the same thread are OK.
For your information my display is set to 1280 x 1024 and I'm using IE6.Steve0 -
ickle steve if someone has put in a large link or a large picture that will cause the problem you described, i think other people are saying it happens on every post on every board0

Exactly right Divadee.
I know what ickle steve is talking about, but no, that isn't the issue here.
I'm living with small text and the larger resolution size to avoid scrolling.
Webby, if the cause of the problem is discovered and rectified, please can you post to confirm so that I can switch back to 800x600 and take my specs off!0 -

I think an apology from you to Divadee is more apt.;)
I agree with Divadee's reply to you island _man, and have read your input and I'm afraid have taken it the same way Divadee has taken it, and your attitude needs to soften, and you do sound like you have thrown your toys out of the pram.:(
As for you not having anyone to help you if YOU muck things up your wrong.
We are here to help each other, and we have a very good Techie board which still amazes me with the knowledge you can pick up from there, plus the help.
So if you try something and it goes wrong you only have to ask for help and it will be there.:)
Divadee is a very nice person and if you back at her previous posts, you will see that it is not in her nature to be rude.:) IMO0 -

I had not seen this post earlier, but no island man i dont feel ashamed and dont think i have shown myself up at what i said cos i feel you were being rude about this site when martin had already stated the problem with fixing your scrolling problem as they cant see a problem.
By all means if you feel that remarks warrent it, report my post thats what the abuse button is there for.
I am not going to enter into anymore conversation on this subject as it could just go on and on. And no i wont apologise either.
