Also (I expect this has been covered elsewhere?) do we need a reply box on every page of a thread? You'd get more posts on each page if you just had it at the end.
If I'm reading this right Bogof_Babe, you do need a reply box after each post on a thread as you may want to reply to that particular post, without using the Quote bit.:)
Is that what you mean.0 -
No, I actually meant the quite big "Quick reply" box. Maybe I'd better re-check my facts, but I am sure it is at the foot of each page on multiple-page threads.
I quite agree that we need a "reply" tab under each post - although having said that, I'm not sure why, as replies don't filter in under earlier posts that aren't at the end of the thread, so we'd have to "quote" anyway if we want our comments to relate to a particular post earlier in a thread.
I am confusing myself now - sorry about this.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

How glad I am to read the above posts. Two things emerge.
No.1, it seems "they" accept there is a problem
No.2, it seems "they" suggest "we" alter "our" settings. Settings that are perfect for each and every other message board site.
I for one find this not to my liking. I would respectfully suggest that it should be corrected by MSE when they have time. Afterall, prior to the improvements currently being carried out, everything was fine. islandmanThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. A wee bit unfair IM. Brendan was simply asking questions. With the answers to the questions we should be able to work out the problem. We can't see a problem on any of our machines, which makes it tough to fix.
Still not sure the above will help us fix it though - cos we're struggling to find out what is wrong
Any suggestions as to how our settings could be changed to help are most welcomeMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

To be honest i have to agree with Martin I cant see a problem at all, i dont have to keep scrolling across on any pages.
Also bog of babe, you can go to your user cp and then change the settings so you can have more posts on a page already that option is personal choice
and island man, martin and his team do run this website for us and it doesnt cost us a penny, they have just upgraded the software and are gonna upgrade the servers again all at their expense. Just think of all the money you have saved and the little bit of time you have had to waste just from doing a bit of scrolling.0 -
Pat_ wrote:If I set at this 1024 x 768, I end with a big black gap at the bottom of the screen. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this.
you need to stretch the screen size on the actual monitor settings to get rid of the black line you must have a menu button on your button press that and then go round to the stretch screen size and do it until it fits pat

Thank you Martin for your personal intervention. I note what you say.
To the person who reminded me of all that I've saved compared with the time I now loose scrolling, you are of course quite right.
What I would like to say now is, if anyone that has a stretched page, follows the advice suggested in the above post, ie alter settings, can you guarantee that this will NOT effect any other page/message board ?. I for one, have no-one to help me out if I find I've mucked things up, so clearly I am extremely reluctant to enter a world that I am unfamiliar with.
I will look back later today for comment on my last paragraph. islandman. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Not sure about others, but the sizing problem for me is that each time I open a new page, there is such a large left hand margin (due to the Articles, Guides, Money Tips etc headings) that it is always necessary to scoll over to the right. One click on each page does it, but it would be good to not have to do that. Could those headings be shrunk a bit?
I've tried amending the resolution but it messed up other applications such as Outlook and stretched them out so that I can't see the whole screen as it's fallen off the screen. Also as previously mentioned by another poster, the text becomes so small at that resolution that it's uncomfortable to read and nothing you do makes the text bigger. I therefore switched back to 800 by 600.0 -
Every post has the "quick reply" you can use this and still quote the post your referring to ............click quick reply on the post your answering ,when the box open tick 'quote message in reply' (this is at the bottom of the reply box) and the quote will appear .
If the quick reply box is driving you mad sitting at the bottom of each page ,close it down by using the arrow symbol on the top right of the box (I do this as it drives me nuts) then you only have a bar to contend with.(it automatically opens up when you click quick reply so it's still usable)
hope that helps a little ,I have assumed your settings are on the 'enhanced' mode0 -
There you are, just as I imagined, if WE try to resolve YOUR problem by interferring with our individual computer settings, we open up all manner of problems.
