What are the best storage heaters?

Having had my planning consent for an ASHP refused, I will
have to revert to E7/E10 electric heating.
Can anyone recommend the best storage heaters? I have heard
that some are thermally sealed & have a fan to draw off the heat
when you need it. Is there any "central" controlled systems?
Thanks.

Its along time since I had storage heaters, having ones with a fan boost would involve bi wiring them. I'd start out looking at Dimplex and Creda myself.
For example: http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/domestic_heating/installed_heating/duoheat_radiator/duoheat_radiator/index.htmThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Are you absolutely sure you want E7 storage heating? I've changed from that recently to thermostatic electric radiators and find them cheaper to run on standard tariff and far better to live with.
I'd recommend researching all your options before you commit to storage heating.0 -
No, I don't want it, but no standard rate system can possibly compete. E7/E10 is around 1/3 the unit cost per KWH, so as long as you can store it, it's the best I "think" what have you fitted?0

I would go with either creda or dimplex. The modern ones are fully automatic and said to be 15% more efficient than manual ones.
Mine are at least 20 years old now and still keep my house plenty warm enough.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
Yes, disappointing, & total bull**** as 45dB is pretty quiet.0

You think a standard rate system couldn't compete? Well I've lived with storage heaters for 20 years so I think i'm in a position to comment on whether I know my new system is doing better or not. I fitted wall mounted thermostaically controlled electric radiators.0 -
Thanks. In theory E7 should be cheaper, but not of course, if the heat has all gone by the afternoon. Do you find that it's better because the heat is only used when you choose. I have never lived without GCH, got no gas in new place so unsure which way to go.0

The best of both worlds are the creda eco response and dimplex duo ranges.
They combine storage heating and panel heaters and are the latest revision of storage heating.
I am thinking about some my self for next winter, they may be what you need.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
Yes, especially notice it now as we have a bit of a milder spell. The heater in my sitting room has only used 9 kwh in the last 24hrs (got it plugged in to monitor), it's on 24/7 at 17c and we have it at 21c in the morning for a few hours and in the evening for 6hrs. The heater it replaced would have used more than twice as much and the heat would be gone by mid evening.
I'm predicting a reduction in consumption by about 20% overall this year which for me means a reduction in my electric bill of around £200. I'll be back in May with a report of how the first quarter has gone.0
