Planning on taking out little girl on holiday in June (she'll be 6 months). If I get a room through Priceline, will I then need to contact the hotel directly to advise them about the baby or should I not use priceline in this instance?
Should I contact the Hotel I've won?
Each to his own really.Once you've won then the hotel treats this as any other prepaid booking.
If you need a cot  then contact the hotel as you would normally do.

If you need help bidding then post the details on Betterbidding

and I'm sure someone ;) will help.

Did you (or could you) post the winning bid on Betterbidding?

    It helps others.

Just a quick question when looking at winning bids - are the prices posted on winning bids incl of tax or before?

Trying to get a hotel for end of Aug for £60 a night, which is actually £71 when you add the tax. I can see some winning bids of $120, but don't know if that's around £60 that I'm bidding or the £71 that it becomes once tax is added?

    TIA

Winning bids I think are generally quoted without taxes. I managed to get the Intercontinental in Los Angeles this September on the US site for $99 & I quoted this as a winning bid but there were additional taxes. It was still an incredidible bargain.

Winning bids posted are excluding taxes.

The reason is that the taxes bit varies  and it's the actual bid that wins the hotel.

    Hotwire is a scam.

Its basically a glorified Expedia whereby you dont actually get to see the hotel you have booked.
They never accept a low offer and when you have actually booked the hotel check its price and the price you paid. From my experiance its never more than a few quid less.

This has been reported to no longer work.

    So don't try it!
This worked for me a month or so ago. Wasn't intentional, the 3 digits on back of card were very faint and I'd keyes them wrong. 1st bid came back rejected, added a free bid zone and then got told my cc details were wrong. (Sorry cazziebo, paid less for the Toronto Sheraton than you)

I was trying to explain to some friends at the weekend how Priceline works, as we'd just paid £40 for the Hilton Islington and they were jealous. I'll email them over a link to this thread!

    Did you read my guide?

Like anything else Hotwire needs to be researched to find out the pitfalls.

I've had some bargains at Hotwire but there were lots of other times I gave them a miss because their prices were too close to 'proper' rates.

Glad to hear it worked for you.

It still doesn't tell you which hotel but can give a good indication of a winning bid level.

I don't advocate it as it is fraud and priceline could ban you!
  • My husband and I both have priceline accounts, that way we can get around the one bid in 24 rule.

It is worth registering more than one card and altering the name by adding an extra initial.
