OS Daily Thread - Mothering Sunday 14th March

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 14th March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

A MOTHER...
When you're a child she walks before you,
To set an example.
When you're a teenager she walks behind you
To be there should you need her.
When you're an adult she walks beside you
So that as two friends you can enjoy life together..
Lowesy - Still in my thoughts honey
Hester - If I had known you were cooking turkey I would have been right there!
jc - My mum used to swear by Arnica gel for her arthritis aches and pains. Plus some dietary changes. I use Arnica here for bumps and bruises too. It can be very pricy but SBC sell it in larger quantities which are very good value and you can get a bath soak too. We usually buy it from QVC.
Laura - I do hope your little foster cat is Ok
Vicki - Great to see you back and really pleased that you are in your new place at last! It must be so exciting.
Nic1 - sooooo cute!

In case you missed this yesterday this Youtube clip really shows how amazing the bond between animal and owner can be. It's a good song too.

I sent my mum some lovely organic toiletries. They posted them out so she should have received them yesterday.
I hope everyones day goes well and that anyone feeling poorly feels better. With love and light for all.

Mothers Day. An excuse to rip people off with expensive cards and flowers.
Don't get me wrong it's not that I or anyone else does not love his Mum, it's the fact that we have to buy a card and a gift or else you look real bad!
Morning anyway. Off to work soon, hoping it's fairly quiet. Not like yesterday where a whole bunch of teenagers decided to attack each other and smash up each other's cars......
Did a shop in Tesco after work, which was rubbish compared to ASDA.. Fuel is going sky high too... Labour taxed it to death.
Well, I feel a bit like Mr Grumpy today, so you will excuse me?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi MSD and N9eav! N9eav - you sound just like my old man! I hope your Mum has a good Mothering Sunday!
MSD - thanks for those lovely words and that great link. Thanks, also, for the info about Arnica - my sister has arthritis so I will pass it on to her.
Well, it might not be Mothering Sunday here in France but I have things to open from the boys, and they are both Skyping me later, so it's definitely Mothering Sunday for me.
It's a bit warmer here now, but we still wake up to hard frosts first thing in the morning. I can't wait for spring to finally arrive - it has been a long hard winter for everyone, I think.
Dinner last night was chicken curry and rice which was lovely. Today we're having roast beef - I picked up a lovely joint for under €3 which will do us two meals with the leftovers. The joint looks lovely so I'm really looking forward to it already.
I did a food shop yesterday but, luckily, I didn't need too much this week so spent less than I thought I would. Food is so expensive here compared to the UK. The quality of the meat, fruit and veg is great but the prices are a bit scary and still make me grumble. I can't help comparing them and wish I could stop working out how much more I'm spending here. Still, the utilities are a lot lot cheaper so I suppose it's swings and roundabouts. I know that by now our Council Tax in the UK would have been around £1500 a year - here, it's €395 a year and that includes the TV licence! Water is around €160 a year, and electric is 8 cents a kilowatt (we were paying 22p a KW in the UK. I know our central heating oil is dearer, though, because I remember N9eav saying recently that he paid 42p a litre - our last lot was 62 cents. Petrol and diesel are slightly cheaper here, though.
Anyway, that's enough from me. I'm off for a cuppa (using the PG Tips I bought back from the UK - the French just do not know how to make a decent cup of tea here!)
Have a great Mothering Sunday, everyone.

Morning All & Happy Mothering Sunday all Mums.
Lol Neav :rotfl:
I am up too early for the kids to bring me tea in bed, need to jump in the shower in a minute as DS has an early football match.
Plan is after to go over Freeport Braintree, have a wander around and a Starbucks or twothen something to eat, Pizza or KFC. Going to look in the Gap Outlet shop as I really would like a new pair of jeans.
Received some flowers from the kids yesterday - half price from M&S :rotfl:am glad to see they have thrifty ways. I also popped in M&S myself and picked up another mothers day meal - got a lamb joint that should have been £12 on its own.
Won't be seeing my Mum today but will be ringing her in a while - think she might read this so Happy Mothers Day Mum!
Hope you all have a lovely day.x0 -

Morning all!
Don't post on here often, but always reading and gaining tips:T.
Just had to say that i've already made flapjacks this morning ( @ ten past six lol), i keep waking up early 'cause its light!
Used in-date but not-so crunchy nut cornflakes and some demerera sugar i 'forgot' i had in the cupboard.
Hope everyone has a good day whilst i am at work;).0 -
Morning Happy Mothers Day!
DD must know its a special day - she slept until 7am bless her! We're now snuggled up watching the tweenies and she wants me to read Enid Blytons 'The Folk of The Faraway Tree' when I;m finished.
MSD - Thanks for that. With twins boys I always had a big SBC Arnica gel from QVC on stand by and i've often recommended it. Recently started buying it again (still SBC but in smaller bottles from ebay) for DH when he gets bumps and bruises from his martial arts class. I have it on the drawers next to my bed for when I wake with cramps during the night. Its been very helpful.
I don't like to take painkillers as I need to be able to feel the pain so I can slow down when I need to. If I kill the pain I find I go nuts and then the next day struggle to get out of bed! Not sure if that makes sense to anyone but it does to me !
I have a couple of MSing jobs to do today whenI pick the step kids up from their grandads. Dinner will be something very simple with mince - maybe Cottage Pie (DH can cope with mince)
I'm not expecting any gifts today but when I got back yesterday DS1 had done all my house work again. He said as I was out working he knew I would be tired when I got back and he wanted to get it done for me. Priceless :smileyhea
Hope everyone enjoys their day

Hi,
I hope everyone has a lovely Mothering Sunday. The origins stem back to when young women in service were given the sunday off to return home to visit their mothers......

Morning all
Another beautifully sunny morning here, last 2 days it clouded over round 11am though but hopefully not today.
It's the first race of the new grand prix season today :j:j I'm rather excited. So I'll be watching that whilst sorting a few things out on internet. It's my birthday in a week and I'm in the mood to spring clean my life! Need to sort out all those things that I've put off for weeks, and have a think about a few things that have been on my mind lately.
I'm going to go for a walk along the coast, probably before the grand prix, whilst it's sunny.
As I posted yesterday I went to visit my mum yesterday so no need to go today. My parents were planning a picnic lunch out anyway for today.
Think I'll do some roast spuds, stuffed tofu, green beans, peas and yorkshires for either lunch or dinner, depending on when I can be bothered to cook today!DD must know its a special day - she slept until 7am bless her! We're now snuggled up watching the tweenies and she wants me to read Enid Blytons 'The Folk of The Faraway Tree' when I;m finished.
aww this was one of my favourite books as a kid
Have a good mother's day all
