Congratulations on getting the pension now, there are only a couple of weeks to go before retirement at 60 becomes a thing of the past (for the state pension anyway) as the climb begins to 65 then 68 before you can get it .
(You don't pay NI on pension income regardless of your age)

I hit the BIG 60 next year but I'll have to wait until the following year before I can claim my pension and freedom pass. I'm so disappointed but I suppose it could have been worse. I just hope and pray the freedom pass is still available by the time I hit 61 & I hope I'm still around to claim it.My husban's had his for a few years and it saves him a small fortune.

The freedom pass should still be available but like the heating allowance etc the age will be rising in line with the changes to the pension

    Welcome to the club, both.

OH and I get the state pension weekly. It counts as our housekeeping and odd spends, so we use our occupational pensions for the bills and saving ( short-term only, ie holidays! )

It's a lovely little boost every week.

About free swimming, I've just discovered that, even if it's not offered in your local authority area, you can still go to a neighbouring authority area which does offer it. You may need to prove your age, but I imagine we can all do that.

I've found one that's closer to where I live and, if it's free, I could go a lot more often for practice. Just going once a week for lessons is not really helping me.

And don't foget, if you're a member of the National Trust, write to them to ensure you get the reduced pensioner rate subscription.

So envious! I have to wait until I'm 62 1/2 to get my pension dammit ... Do you all recommend the weekly rather than 4 weekly payment then?
