    Any other benefits please guys

If you go back to the listing of threads on this section, you'll see a 'sticky' at the top - discounts for the over 50s & 60s - have a look there, but I suspect the oldest ones are probably a bit out of date now.

...you get it paid in advance instead of arrears if it'd weekly...

but unfortunately, 'they' are taking away the weekly option for new pensioners from April of this year. Everyone will be on 4-weekly.

PS when I say 'everyone' I mean everyone new, if you're getting it weekly now, it will stay that way.

Hit 60 last week and will be getting a pension of £84 per week which Im having paid monthly.

    |Thing is I shall carry on working part time - I earn just below the level for NI and tax (work for OH/am a director of his limited co).

You are not liable for NI anyway once you hit 60.

I realise that the OP is female and therefore ceases to be liable for employees NI once past 60. For clarity that does not apply to men. It also does not apply to females with self-employed earnings until the tax year after the one in which they reach 60.

I was 60 in January, too. I love seeing my state pension arrive every Monday in advance. My bus pass arrived yesterday, the day after I applied for it and I had my first free swim last Sunday. Retirement is brilliant .... absolutely no regrets!

Congrats to all you new age pensioners, one of my close friends is a little older than me and she also hit the big 60 in January. Unfortunately I will be at least 66 before I get mine.

  • What happened around Easter in 1949 for all of us to be 60 in January 2010? ;)

  • Oh! Don't forget the much-maligned Winter Fuel Allowance of £200 per year and also your £10 Christmas Bonus!
