I'm a truck driver, so would need to know about narrow streets in Wales (No I'm not Belgum!) and more usually LOW BRIDGES are these add-ons avaialible?0

I haven't read through the 5 pages of comments about this unit but having seen it on sale in the newspaper at Halfords, I tried the Sixfields branch in Northampton. The guy in-store said they had not had any for 3 months and he nkew that the Riverside branch didn't have any either.
I then contacted a branch in Norfolk (as I was there on business) and they didn't have any as well as a branch in Oxford. Finally fuond 12 in stock in Cowley and drove there to get one when I was there on business.
NOW I find you can get it delivered LOL
If you have any questions about this excellent unit I am happy to take PMs.
I love how compact it is (have had positive comments from Tom-Tom users!) and the option to change voices. I did put it on British for a while but she suonded too much like Miss Moneypenny from James Bond so I left it on the American woman instead.
I don't think you can download voices from the web for it like you can with some Tom-Tmos but I'm not sure I could concentrate on where I was going with Yoda or Ozzy Osbourne directing me anyway!
I have downloaded the speed (oops I mean safety) camera database which was quite straightforward. I only subscribed for a month at £2, didn't see the point in paying £19 for a year when I likely wouldn't be updating it religiously every month anyway.
You can also change from 3D to 2D, change the zoom level, change the text and voice languages and also there is a "detour" option if you get stuck in traffic.
The automatic rerouting is very quick if you go off-course.
Comes highly recommended at an excellent price.0 -

It then bleeps as you approach a camera (Static ones only of course)T
If I buy this unit how would I go about adding cameras? Is it free?0 -
You will need the Garmin POI loader from here:
http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=927%20
Then you can get the camera database from this siet by subscribing for either 1 month (£2.00) or 1 year (£19.00):
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php
Then you get access to a page to download a zip file. Download and unzip the file into a temporary folder. Then run the POI loader (with your Garmin connected to the PC) and tell it which folder the files are in.
It then does a download to the device and the job is complete.
You may get a lot of false reports as it also holds locations where mobile cameras have been previously so you may get an alert but there not actually be a camera or van there (but at least it makes yuo aware of your current speed and the limit you should be keeping to!). Also it has a list of traffic light cameras too.
What I also like about this unit is that even if you are not following a planned route, you can select "View Map" and it will show you where yuo are going anyway and still alert you to cameras.0 -
I couldnt uplaod the poi as the instructions implied by Outbidder as it stated on the device that it doenst have enough space.
All I did was update the software via the garmin webupdate to latest build, I am hoping this can be resolved once my transcard arrives, as it didnt come with one, only a slot0 -
All the MoneySavers who want the Speed Camera database for this gadget should remember that over 3000 people were killed on the roads last year in Britain.
Those people were of every age, race and class and will never see another day.
So maybe keeping to the speed limits would not hurt.
Happy Motoring!0 -
Nice public service announcement OddB but as I was saying, it is handy even if there is not a camera there to remind you of what speed you should be doing as none of us are perfect drivers and we all do not concentrate 100% of the time.
I am not a reckless young speed freak who wants to double the limit on every road, I do however drive tens of thousands of miles every year. I am betting that most people know someone who has got a ticket who they would not class as a reckless driver.
Also there is such a thing as bad pedestrians as well as bad drivers ;-)
There is also a train of thought that bad driving kills and not fast driving, not that I would ever encourage either of them.0 -

And despite a forever increasing number of cameras this figure has not gone down in over 6 years, just the opposite in fact, slowly rising.
In fact the number of people being killed was slowly being reduced UNTIL the year that speed cameras became THE SOLUTION to this problem when the downward trend did an abrupt about-turn.
Also the county with the most speed cameras has the highest pro-rata death toll and the county with with the lowest death toll ......... ????

........ and (an oft-quoted point) speed cameras are placed at accident 'black' spots and gadgets like this raise the awareness of a driver that they are approaching such a place.
Not all fatalities are speed related, although many are.0 -
OddB has obviously been brainwashed by all the government spin on speeding.
"Safety scameras" are there to make money, they are nothing to do with safety on the whole lets get that little point straight.
They are usually sited where they can generate the most profit.0
