Can anyone hand on heart say they never speed, never late for an appointment due to traffic hold ups etc,or are there saints amongst us all?
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!
  • Are there any free maps for major roads in mainland Europe, eg, just the motorways and main roads I'd need to drive through france?

This would be handy for me rather than paying a lot of money for the detailed maps I would not need.

i've updated my version from firmware 2.70 to firmware 3.10 and it now allows me to navigate to most european towns and cities on major roads.

Can you download maps of the US (e.g. Florida) and put these in the unit?
I don't mind paying but can you do it and how much is it likely to be?
    Does anyone know?
    Thanks

Personally, I'm going back to maps and arguing with "she who must be obeyed" when we get lost. The number of times this thing has mis-directed me is now beyond a joke - sending me left or right when it should leave me on the road I am on, sending me via towns and villages on the outward journey, then, more sensibly, via the motorways and main roads on the same journey in reverse. No wonder the US fired a rocket at the Chinese embassy using their SatNav!

Maplin have brought the i3 down to £129.99, so I called them and asked if they 'price match'. I was told 'yes', but only if you buy the item from them in the first place, ie, they won't call a local store to check availability and then lower their price to match, they only refund you the difference after the event. Bah!

I have £7 off £100+ spend voucher from Maplin that can be used online or instore which would have brought it down to a cool £92.99. (Throw in a couple of AA batteries or the cheapest item you can find to take it up past £100.)

Maybe if someone actually went into a store and presented the Manager with details of a Comet/Halfords in the vicinity that has the unit in stock at the lower price, they would 'price match' it selling it for the said £99, and then you present your vouchers at checkout thus getting it for £93, it could actually work.... ;);););););)

    Off to dig deeper....

I bought one of these in December 2005 when Martin was recommending them at the price of around £160. Seems that prices are plummeting fast!

I did not use it much until I started house-hunting and it has been a real boon. You can download speed camera info but there is a problem because the speed camera beeps can interrupt the voice prompts.

The unit does not seem adhere to windscreens very well but it does come with a self-adhesive plate (that you can stick on the dashboard) and then use the rubber sucker on the unit to affix to the plate. But the self-adhesive plate does highlight to existence of the unit to any prospective thief.

In my new car, I use the rubber sucker on the unit to affix to the dashboard, making sure that I clean the dashboard each time I remove the unit.

I find that it often does not give enough warning - especially at roundabouts - so when approaching a roundabout I stay in right hand lane and just go around the roundabout once (if necessary) before taking the correct exit.

In general, it seems better than the fully-fitted unit that my sister has in her Audi and which cost her well over £1,000!

Had mine for about 6 months, excellent !
Dont rely on it ABSOLUTELY, use a bit of common sense. It seems to choose the shortest route which is not always the quickest, but having said that, I find it very good for that last mile to your destination. A bit fiddly to program but no major problems. Saves a lot of hassle from my co-pilot who cant tell left from right.

You are aware that there is an option in the settings where you choose either the fastest or shortest route?
