Is the unit supposed to come with batterys? Mine did not but I assume you use standard AAs as the handbook does not indicate they need to be "special"!

Do Garmin allow one map update free as the map on mine seems awfully out of date...

    Many thanks

    Stephen

The UK map should show up as v8 in the Settings about somewhere page.

No AA batteries bundled - look on the face where the cover clips in for the highly camoflaged polarity diagram. There is a setting to tell the i3 which type of battery - ie Alkaline or Ni-Mh - so it can estimate the charge/life left more accurately.

Mine didn't have a manual, just the multilingual getting started one - though found the "full" PDF manual online without any trouble via Google.

Like everyone else can't make head or tail of the yellow unlock codes page which seems to open up France. It's strange that for an enterprise that SEEMS to be customer friendly their online experience is FAR from user friendly - eg the idea of a multipart mumbojumbo URL to type in to register and this completely non-sensical France maps stuff. Another example being that having taken the webupdate from their download page, the first thing that webupdate did was say IT was out of date, which is rather pathetic really!

Oh well - it navigates very well from a week's experience with 3.1 so far.

You can see whether a road is on the latest maps by going to here - http://www.garmin.com/cartography/ and then with the Mapsource Map Viewer select City Navigator Europe V8.

If it isn't (or there is another error) you can report it here http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/errorForm.html

Whether they do anything about it or not is another question.

Woolworths has it on there site at £99.99 but out of stock.

They are £99.99 in Halfords & web site, including fitting and all that!

I been using mine this week whilst on hols its very good and really helped me get around.

Before I got mine just before going on hols I contacted Halfords, this is what they told me via email. I got mine fro Car phone Warehouse for £125 include online price match for the web site they wouldnt price match any other outlets, only phones are inclusive of price matching according to there terms and conditions and there systems or so I been told wouldnt allow it to be discounted further.

"I am sorry we will not be getting anymore Garmin i3's in stock.

    Kind Regards

    Halfords Customer Services"

Back in stock at Comet - back to £129.99

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
  • Bought mine today at the Carphone Warehouse, Kingsthorpe, Northampton, for £124.99. Haven't tried price matching it as I wasn't sure it was the same model I had read about on here at the time.

  • Mine arrived Friday but only just got a chance to look at it. it doesn't work. It keeps saying searching for satalite settings but never finds them. Been trying all day in all areas of the house. Downloaded software but said no updates needed. Has this happened to anyone else?

You need to go outside to pick up a signal, unless you are driving your car indoors?

As plumb1 stated you need to get outside to use it, it takes about 5-10 minutes or so to lock on, or it did for me for first time, then it doesnt seem to to take more than a few minutes if your are outside your home address.

I tried it all last week whilst on hols its great although you can get problems in areas that have large buildings.
