Both Gatley and Heald green are small villages.

Gatley; River Mersey is about half a mile before it (although the M60 is nearer - you'd think they'd have spotted that!). Not really a "country" place to visit though, but a nice enough place.

Great thread...thanks for starting it!:D I'll have a think about cheapie places. South Manchester is very expensive.Ashton Market excellent and cheap.

When I was a student I used to frequent the Lidl on Oxford Road. There's a small market in Longsight which has cheap vegetables. It's not the classiest place ever, however.
