Hiyah, i really could do with some help and advice about my new car

On the 1st March 2010 i got my Brand new 2010 Toyota Iq2,
However today after a few problems i have found out this car was actually built in December 2008 14 months ago

Let me explain it all,
In February after test driving a few cars i decided to go for the Iq with scrappage, i placed my order and waited to find out the delivery date,
I was told i was very lucky because the sales man managed to find me the last remaining white with leather in the uk, it was in london and was ordered for a customer who changed there mind if he hadnt found this car i would not be able to get the white with leather in time to benefit from the scrappage scheme,

I asked him is this a brand new car he said yes..
a few days later my husband asked him what was the build date of the car, the rep said hed never been asked that before but would get back to us.
a few days later the rep got back in touch and said ive already paid and arranged for the transporter to collect your car if you need to know the build date i will have to cancell it all and if we were not happy with the build date then i couldnt have an iq he also said cars are usually kept for up to 12 weeks, and implied this was normal and the case for this car,
so we said 12 weeks was fine go ahead
we got the vin number and it said 2010 so we thought fine

on the day of collection, we found the inside was heavily scratched so it was agreed they would be changed a few days later
during the first days use i also found there was a problem with the wheel balancing, and the window seal, these problems were dealt with or so i thought
i also thought my leather seats looked very wrinkly but they didnt have another car to compare it to

so today i was ringing them about more faults i have found, the air conditioning unit sounded like it was going to explode, the rain sensing wipers dont work, the window seal has gone again, its still vibrating when i drive it

I was reading thru my manual and it said about the wheel compressor ( tye repairs due to not having a spare) has a 4 year expirary date, well i checked it and it expires in sept 2012

I decided to ring Toyota about that to see if its normal that the expirery date is short and just asked them if they knew when the car was built and thats when i found out it was built in 2008

now it all makes sense , i was reading the toyota forum and could see the earlier problems people had with the first batch of 1qs which appear to be resolved after 2009

Spoke to the manager of the salesroom where i bought it, he said he cant do anything
Spoke to Toyota who have took all my info and they are getting back to me

Ive no idea what to expect, ive had the car for 12 days now my lovelly daewoo has been scrapped ( or has it ? i havnt received anything that tells me its been scrapped )and i feel a fool for not insisting on knowing the build date, he made me feel stupid for even asking
Im not happy with the faults i keep finding

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, sorry for poor grammar and spelling

ps, i paid outright for the car no finance

Trading standards perhaps? Citizens advice? Email Toyota Japan?

I'd do all of the above and more if the info that you have provided is correct.

Citizens advice in the first instance... but you definately need to log a written complaint with the garage and Toyota

Rumour has it that Toyota customer services in UK are sadly lacking in customer service these days. It would shame the Japanese if they knew - someone should tell them.

Not your fault - think we all are aware that when we buy a new car, it may have been sitting about for awhile - but two years is rather long, and has the problems too...

Customer services may be very 'nice' - but are they actually doing anything? don't be palmed off!

Don't you think they know? Who do you think oversees the way Toyota are sold around the world? It took the American president and government to make them act in the states, can you really see Gordon doing the same?

    14 months isnt that long.

We used to send birthday cards to dealers who were sitting on vehicles when they hit their year from built date as a subtle kick that they should sell the damn thing. 1 and 2 year cards went out every month but we would do double digit figures of 4 year and 5 year cards as well.

The key thing is the warranty starts from the date of reg so get them to put it all right and get it all sorted and ask for a new can of tyre sealent.

Appreciate you feel a new car should be new but if manufacturers built every vehicle to order you would be waiting anywhere from 3 to 6 months for your average car and up to a year if it was something special.

If you reject the car they are unlikely to get you another at the same deal and your px has probably been scrapped.

And your advice to the OP is?

Be British and just do sweet nothing? Or fight your corner?

I know new cars can have issues - but I think that this has more than is acceptable, and as the OP said 'later' models had been rectified - later as in ones bought before she got hers!

My advise is to reject the car for a replacement, and to pursue it with Toyota UK.
But phoning Japan won't achieve much, the uk are providing the customer services the Japanese have told them to.
