  • I've spent quite a lot of time reading this thread - planning on going to Orlando for theme parks etc October 2006 (last two weeks). I've gleaned some really useful info about park tickets etc so thanks everyone for that.

My husband and I are going with our three girls (who will be 9 and 6 x 2) and Grandad and will probably book a villa (as we like our own space).

I hope someone can help me with questions about flights - how far in advance can I book (ie can I do it now or do I have to wait a month until this October)? What sort of prices can I expect to pay (economy I'm afraid)? Which is the best route to Orlando from East Anglia? Am I mad to hope to be able to travel on a Saturday?

Apologies if the above info is already in this thread - I did a search on flights but didn't get many returns. Any info gratefully received.
  • I have just booked for 1st 2 weeks in October 2006 for 2 adults & 2 children flying from Manchester - Sanford staying in the Holliday Inn I Drive all for £1900 through Thomson Online. My question is regarding getting from the airport to the hotel and more importantly - how much will it cost and can anyone recommend a goof taxi firm.

This is my 2nd time to Florida and already I cannot wait!!

    Thanks in advance
  • Brookfield > I think you can book flights up to 11 months in advanced, just having a quick look on the map i think gatwick or heathrow would be your best bet.

Private villa is a great idea (we're going tomorrow i cant wait) i would advise a people carrier hire if you can afford it.

John2303 > I think you can get a shuttle from sanford but i am unsure of the times. Contact your hotel they will help you.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply...

I would like to do all the parks, defo want to do the magic kingdom, animal kingdom, universal, bush gardens, everglades crock thing day, Epcot, MGM studios, downtown disney, the best water park??? some shows, don't like shopping so 1/2 a day max in a good discount shop will do. Do not want to do by the pool days as could have paid 1/4 of the price and done that.

We can split as the 14 and 15 year old will have a mobile to contact us on but we would like to be close by incase they need us.

Get yourself a set of two way radios (walkie talkies) they are so cheap across there and much easier to use (about $25 for a pair, plus you can also get sets of four etc).

Plus you don't incur the really expensive phone calls. Also if one of these happen to get lost or damged you probably wont care as much as if you mobile did. There are a lot of wet rides in theme parks and if you arent careful your phones will die!!!

You can even use them when you go to the hotel pool.

Walmart sell 2-way Motorola radios with a 5 mile range for just under $20.

If you can get to Circuit City or Best Buy (the equivalent of Dixons/Comet) and you can get various kinds, some have ten mile radius'

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=MM21DMJIZSLQLKC4D3EVAFY?id=cat06017&type=category&categoryRep=cat06000

look out for discount vouchers on the website that you can print out

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/categorylist.do?catOid=-12828&N=20012841+20012828&c=1

they have a set with a three mile radius for only $20

please be warned that it may be that you cannot use these back in the UK as the frequencies are different - the same goes for UK bought handsets in that you may not be able to use them in other countries. Nothign to stop you lending them to friends and family when they go to US though.

Haven't travelled with TCD myself my but with your hubby at 6' 5" the extra leg room will be worth it I'm sure. It might be worth checking with TCD what the difference in seat pitch is between ecomony and Premium.
  • Hi all

We are going to Orlando in 3 weeks, staying at Disneys Vero Beach Resort and at Saratoga Springs, I am trying to convince my husband that loading our flex account is the best way to get cash out there - he's not convinced.

Do banks make charges for using ATM's?

Does anybody have any persuasive arguments that might help me?

    Thanks
