Round the World flights rip off

Had it occurred to you that perhaps my distances are far apart because i intend to travel between the two places?
Imagine that - going travelling and actually travelling.
So have you included the cost of travelling between the places you dont want to include on a RTW ? ( there bye defeating the whole purpose of a RTW ? )Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I have no idea what your point is, but I can only summarise if that you are trying to show off. Again, well done if it makes you happy.
Having lived and worked in Asia i've pretty much utilised every airline flying east, and would happily spend more to fly Qatar or Etihad or Malaysian over say, Air India or Egypt Air or KLM, Royal Brunei or whatever is cheapest. Often the cheapest is my preferred choice. I want legroom, entertainment, decent food & service, quick transit, and to ensure that i'm not stuck in the middle. I normally get all these all very cheaply.
Even on whatever you want to term LHR-DEL, it's still 8 1/2 hours so it's long enough, just like flying from New York to London via Iceland. I'd pay extra to fly direct, to get seat back TV's, and possibly to get extra leg room.
Anyway, well done, pat on the back and all that.
If using facts to lend weight to my side of this debate you classify that as 'showing off' then fair enough.
I guess you'll have to keep paying more and ill keep paying less.
Have a great weekend.The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -

I thought the whole idea of a RTW ticket was to say fly between major hubs around the world. All the travel in between would of course be additional cost but then what would be the point of say flying to Bangkok if you only saw Bangkok?
All the comments on here since my initial post have proven one thing - It is cheaper to book the flights separately, unless you need flexibility. Which i don't.The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -

You arent comparing like for like , the thread is about the cost of travelling round the world surely , not about what you would miss if you didnt travel in between?Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

As it has been said, you are not comparing like for like. Depending on the route, it can be cheaper for RTW or for separate flights. Generally if you are doing a lot of miles or going to places not served by cheap airlines (which still do exist, and mean a one way is the same or more expensive than a return) a RTW may turn out cheaper.
This seems to be a pointless exercise to demonstrate how much better you are at finding out cheap airfares than anyone else. It is not a fair comparison, as many people have pointed out. For YOU, in your circumstances, a RTW is not economical, as long as you are prepared to fly those airlines (and Malaysian and Air Asia really cannot be compared in the same bracket in any way) and as long as you don't mind wasting extra time with stopovers.
I and many people would pay (a little) extra to fly decent airlines (LHR - DEL on Air India is long haul enough for me to be avoiding like the plague) and not to wait 12 hours in Reykjavik airport to get to London. To each their own, but RTW tickets still do have their function, and are still cheaper at times depending on the route you wish to take.0 -
If you have made 15 return trips to Asia, then i can only conclude that you must have paid thousands extra in order to keep up with your little formula.
I have no idea what point you're trying to make. I have access to industry staff fares that means I rarely pay more than tax or a nominal per sector fare for many airlines whether it's for work or my hollibobs.
Still, well done anyway.0 -
Hi guys,
I really hate to be the one to stick up for this guy, because his attitude really stinks, but....
Wikipedia says the following about a definition of a RTW Ticket: "The start and end of the journey almost always have to be located in the same country and exactly one crossing each of the Atlantic and Pacific must be included in the itinerary."
His journey does that. So yes, he is going around the world....
Although his comparision isnt fair because the two products are different, one is fully flexible and one isnt. I fly regularly on fully flexible tickets and they are 2-3 times the price of a standard economy ticket.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0
