And there was me thinking £12 a head, which is what we've been quoted for was expensive! I really do need to be a little less MSE sometimes...is it just me that calculates how much a loaf of bread is and how many butties it would produce costs? :o

I'm having a real dilemma over how many to cater for, we are getting married late in the day and venue has suggested we perhaps cut out the canapes and go straight for the evening buffet but I'd hate to think of people being hungry...might smuggle in a few packs of crisps under my dress and hand them out to those that look like they are about to keel over.

Do you ladies think I should cater for the full number of day guests for the buffet and perhaps not cater for the few extras that are coming just to the evening do?
  • We are getting married at 4pm so wedding breakfast served for 30ish guests at 6.30pm. We should also be having a sweetie bar and then the buffet is being served at 9.30pm. We will probably have around 70 guests in the evening so we are catering for 50. I am worried there is going to be far too much food as even the favours are likely to be food related, ah well I do love my food :D

We're only having an afternoon buffet - but are over catering rather than undercatering... several members of our family (including the groom) don't half put good food away and I know any leftovers will be... um... "rehomed" among both halves of the family! (probably negating the need for anyone to cook for another 2 days)

Having said that - we're going the independent caterers into a separately hired venue route so are less tied into venues' own particular way of doing things (our venue is a community centre - but brand new built less than a year ago, with a full commercial kitchen fitted into it etc - all the furniture set up to cater for conferences/dinners etc... and they've bought additional bits in as we're the first wedding reception they've ever had there - so I think the entire village is in on the act at some point or another!)

We are only have a small wedding, with 13 people invited. We are getting married at 11.30am.

At the moment we are thinking of hiring a function room in a pub from the afternoon to early evening and doing a buffet ourselves. 7 people are our grandparents who are all aged in their early 60's to mid 70's. I know mine would definately prefer a buffet rather than a sit down meal, and so would me and DP TBH!

As we will be catering ourselves (or my mum and Gran lol) we will probably over cater. We'll be getting the multipack party foods you can get from all the summer markets, salad packs, do our own sandwiches. It also means that I can insure there is a lot of vegetarian food as me and my sister are vegetarians.

There will probably be plenty of food left over but I am going to get smart looking party bags. The Grandparents will love having the day after's snap sorted!!

At the moment we are undecided about inviting more people to our reception. I guess it depends what we can hire in budget and what the size is. If it's a large room then there we'll invite more friends and family. As we are getting married on a Wednesday I wouldn't expect people to make an effort to book time off work. Just to come if they are free etc.

We will be having the reception in our local town, if all the food looks like its getting eaten I'll send someone off to Tesco to buy more food!
