Do they take can lids? I've always wondered why ours won't take can lids..are they nonrecyclable?
we have recyling (or some stuff that is recyclable) weekly and non recycleable fortnightly. This is adaquate IMO. I just get frustrated so much recycleable stuff isn't allowed o go.
They take glass, paper not card or thick paper, tins but not lids (ring pull or can opener.)
we get no oficial green watse or clothing bank. we deal with own green waste, so I don't know how hard it would be to arrange. fabric etc I take myself.
I pay for my haylage wrappers, even though IU'm not a business...because...its easier. I hate using haylage because of the plastic, but they wouldn't grant planning for a hay barn out there where I need it in winter...so...what does one do?0 -

Actually, seriously I have you down as a pretty straight up kinda geezer. The point I'm debating is that whenever anything whatsoever goes wrong, all people want to do is point the finger rather than address the issue. It is almost like no-one accepts responsibility for anything nowadays. Haven't you seen the signs?
No debt and still got spending power, must be part of the solution rather than the problem

Yes they do.
They do ask us to wash out the cans/bottles etc first, but I assume that is environmental/to discourage vermin.
Household waste is weekly. Recycling fortnightly (with garden waste alternating). Most garden waste is composted - I suppose it is big trees chopped or stuff that won't compost.
Prior to the recycling & my getting a composter, we used to put out between 4-7 bin bags a week. We now put out less than 1 a week (in fact the other day I put out a half full bag, & only because it had been in the bin for 2 weeks already & I got a funny look when I suggested leaving it for another week.)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I kinda hoped you'd ask what signs so I could go:
Never mind!;)
I know where you come from - I too am debt free. Thing is, there has been little I actually want to spend my money on atm!
It is alright being advised to spend our way out, but there has to be stuff we wanna buy to encourage the spending.

will help resolve this problem)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Well hang on...who knows from that, what about our jobs (or non jobs). Is my not working part of the problem (not paying lots of tax) or solution...not over crowding job market?0

People who say "we" must shoulder some of the blame are talking bollox.
Well, yes of course, the 'saintly' citizens such as yourself :A are entirely blame free, but the sinners amongst us should take a long hard look.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
remember though there is always nuclear. note where the global uranium supplies are and where things are hotting up politically.
whilst most stuff is made from oil we could probably recycle some plastic and maybe make stuff from other sources.
Generating electricity is the least of our problems.
"Stuff" made from plastic is also insignificant.
Portable fuel for vehicles and agriculture is where the difficulty lies."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Nothing to do with individuals being "saintly" or otherwise.
The problems are inherent in the system and will not be resolved by more regulation."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Horses mate. Could make a comeback. Marvellous. Dray carts. Steptoe. Ploughs. Cheap to run, green.Generating electricity is the least of our problems.

Steam. Age of.
You know - sometimes I really think there may still be a future. Just maybe a bit different. Get rid of all that nasty oil based stuff. It pollutes, it causes wars, it's horrible.0
