If they have chavvy parents who would rather spend money on themselves then their children, then throwing money at them is not going to help - they will just spend that on themselves too.
Everybody knows (unless they have a learning disability) that eating fruit is good for you and smoking and drinking bad, especially when pregnant. Seasonal fruit is also not expensive (whereas smoking and drinking is). There is no excuse not to 'eat healthy' and no need for Government money to be spent on this, nor on the child trust fund.
If people are too selfish to spend their money on their children then the children should be taken away from them and given to someone who will look after them properly. IMHO. Rant over.
Yes, this reminds me of when I was standing at the school waiting for kids to come out.Mum standing next to me telling me how she didn't know what she was going to give the kids for their tea as she had no food in the house only a tin of beans, and no money,........ as she lit up another fag.
I know of one online who,a few months in a row,was online posting and crying because she yet again had £10 to last a month or nothing at all to feed her kids, stating how desperate she was etc etc yet continued to pay for her broadband, sky, buses to town to meet her friends for a coffee and boosting her DVD and games collection. It was amazing how many people were constantly comforting her and offering to help when she wouldn't bloody help herself! If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
No.Hypocrisy would be to say that it's disgusting that any money is given by way of a Sure Start Grant. Not saying that the money should be less, means should be lived within and new should not be expected -certainly not at the expense of the state- and that it shouldn't be given for every child.
There's a world of difference.
Going by another of your posts, you got £100 11 years ago:(with me lmao we have an 11 year old son together and the thought still infuriates her)
£100 11 years ago wouldn't be too far off what £500 is worth today would it?
What would you want to cut the grant back to, the same £100 you received?0 -

Actually £100 wouldn't be so bad.£200 at a push and not for every child. There are papers, there's ebay, there's freecycle, there's secondhand shops, there are budget prams etc
It is very easily doable if you can be bothered to put the effort in and not have the best looking items!
These days there seems to be a fashion war with prams for gods sake!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I'm not sure what planet you are on but you clearly haven't got a clue. Earth, why do you think I'm an alien now, because I can see through your pseudo-snobbery? So were quite happy to take non-means tested benefits, and you think you can be trusted with your own money, but you seem to think anyone that is eligible for HiP grant shouldn't have the the same courtesy.
What has child benefit got to do with any of this?
Different benefit, principle is the same - both are to help with the costs of rearing healthy children - would have thought that to be simple enough to grasp.
What has knowing that child benefit is to be used in relation to a child got to do with being given lump sum payments that are intended for a specific purpose and wasting them on anything you fancy? Who is wasting them on anything they fancy? And don't you also spend your CB on anything you fancy anyway? To be honest fallacious arguments are tedious.
What has it got to do with ridiculous Child Trust Funds that are a complete waste of money? Then refuse yours. You don't have to accept it. Leave others to make their own mind up.
What has it got to do with £500 Sure Start Grants for every child you have when in reality you should have less and live within your means, receive a much smaller amount and not have everything new or more expensive? When the essentials (such as housing) are way out of reach of people on low incomes, most civilised socities recognise that those people will need financial assistance, to prevent seeing starving naked children in shop doorways begging for their tea. Sorry you would rather see that.
Ouch, that fall is gonna hurt bad.All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

What I don't get is, why were you so deserving of the grant, but others appear not to be?
Maybe the government realised £100 was too low, maybe the grant has just increased overtime inline with everything else that has increased in price?
Whatever the reason, I can't see why you are so against a grant that you yourself benefited from?0 -

I personally think even £100 is too much. If someone chooses to have a child then they should be buying the pram/cot - if they cant afford the basics how do they intend to support the child long term? Probably more benefits and therein lies the problem.0 -
The £500 is given to those on a low income.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
50p saver #40 £20 banked
Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250 -

Oh you really make me laugh!!!
The Sure Start Grant (and the equivilant £100 one I received at 17) is means tested.
The HiP grant isn't used on food.As stated, there were also several 'what are you doing with yours' threads on parenting sites, out of hundreds upon hundreds of replies not one single person was using it for it's purpose.IT is intended to promote health in pregnancy not anything else!It also should not be needed.
Never had a CTF and wouldn't want one.MY responsibility to provide for my son and the whole scheme is absurd and the money is better spent elsewhere.
Lowering the amount of a Sure Start Grant will not equate to naked children in shop doorways begging for food!!!!!!!!!!!!!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

I sincerely doubt Shegirl or even many 17 year olds chose to fall pregnant. People make mistakes, that's life. We shouldn't force babies to sleep in drawers and clean chimneys because of it.
And on a seperate line; Without children being born, there would be no one to support you in your old age.
And using this logic, I assume that you want to wipe out most of the third world too?All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Where have I said others are not deserving?
I have stated that it should be less than it is and not handed out for every child popped out not that it should not exsist! If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0
