That is the impression you put across, especially with comments about how you heard about 1 person buying cds etc.
Not all people who receive it will abuse it.
Are you talking about the same grant??

It is not handed out for every child popped out, as you put it.
It is probably the same equivalent of what you received 11 years ago.
did you miss the bit where it says 'for every baby'? Every baby somebody on qualifying benefits or income it is given to!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

This was hundreds of women!!!Given what normally occurs on parenting forums I'd say it was a darn good example.
hundreds of women? literally wow, not millions and godzillions then?
And those (let's be real here: handful of women are representative of whom other than themselves exactly?
There really is no need at all for the HiP grant.NONE. According to you, a person on the internet who is happy to accept her grants when they come her way, but is angry that others get other grants. Yes, I see how that comment is relevant.
Yes I've heard of inflation. But you know what, secondhand seems to be getting cheaper compared to years ago.Also,11 years ago where was Ebay (may have exsisted but certainly not used to the extent it is now),where was Freecycle, where were all the means we now have of selling or freely giving away items including those for babies?Firstly most ebayers only accept paypal. Try setting up a paypal account without a bank account, let me know how you get on. In addition, I've sold loads of prams on ebay - and nearly got back what I paid for them - they don't hardly depreciate, they can be almost just as expensive.
Ps No I'm not opposed to child benefit. It could be something to be considered for cuts for those above a certain income though I suppose but means testing that would no doubt result in higher costs due to administration.
£190 for every woman who gets pregnant every year adds up to quite an amount of unneeded money being spent! Except, not every woman gets it do they? They have to be recommended it for medical reasons, which limits it drastically, but hey lets not bother with facts![/QUOTE]
:rotfl:All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

If you honestly think that lowering a grant means dressing children in rags then you need to look at the world because that is not the case at all!
The relevance in babies not caring if everything matches is that parents often use the money to buy either an expensive pram (the pram fashion war) and many use it to buy what they want so it 'looks better' and often end up with many other things to buy and they can't because they've wasted what they have.
Simple and basic is what is needed if you can't provide yourself. It's easily done but often it isn't done.

No,all they have to do is attend their appointments. It's not based on medical issuesWhen they say you've been given advice they actually mean you've attended your appointments (which generally include being given advice)
It depends on the pram. Those more expensive and more sought after do tend to go for daft money (I don't get why but they do lol).A lot of cheaper ones go...cheaply.There are plenty of older ones around too!
There is a huge difference between once accepting £100 to buy essential baby items and every pregnant woman in the country getting £190 for 'food'If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Deepmistrust. Why do you talk about kids dressed in rags etc.I have never seen any kids in this country dressed in rags.I can only speak from personal experience.I have every sympathy for those in genuine need but my experience has been very largely many families on benefits etc pleading poverty but kids dressed in latest football strip, down the pub/clubs at the weekend, chain smoking, take away meals on a regular basis. They seem to think it is their right to have things.I have even heard one mother say that she wanted her son to go on the dole, meet a nice girl have kids and get a council house because then he would have no pressure in his life!!!!!!!!
My mum and dad struggled all their lives ,we lived in a small terraced house
that they worked hard to pay for.I grew up believing that anything I wanted out of life I would have to work for, and that the more effort I put in the more I would get out of life.0 -
If you honestly think that lowering a grant means dressing children in rags then you need to look at the world because that is not the case at all! Why would you want to lower it? To the point it was meaningless? You were happy to take the same amount allowing for inflation - 11 years ago. If you are that bothered about the economy, now you are so well off, and able to provide, perhaps you'd like to donate the £500 back to the poor government (£100 + rise in inflation).
The relevance in babies not caring if everything matches is that parents often use the money to buy either an expensive pram (the pram fashion war) and many use it to buy what they want so it 'looks better' and often end up with many other things to buy and they can't because they've wasted what they have. Why are you obsessing over whether a parent choose a baby grow with winnie the pooh on it or not, or whether the top matches the trousers? Most babygrows will cost about the same (quality for quality), regardless of whether there is a picture on it. Of course people want to buy the nicer looking things. That doesn't equate to the more expensive. What an odd obsession you have?
Simple and basic is what is needed if you can't provide yourself. It's easily done but often it isn't done. No, some people will need financial help of some sort, wages alone for low income families do not even meet the basics.
It's something that can easily be cut like I said, repay yours then

Anecdotal tales, do not amount to very much. Your own experience, is always going to be limited. I don't care that some poor families might like the odd takeaway! Good grief. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Perhaps, the better made ones do. Maybe it's just me, that wouldn't buy any old piece of junk on wheels, it's a false economy. You'll only end up buying something else later when it's knackered. Besides, how do you know peoples reason? I had to buy a comfy 3-wheeler to push, as I had about 8 miles of walking to do every day. People on low incomes, are likely to walk most places, pushing a cheap knackered buggy isn't going to work.

Fortunately I don't, because we have a society in this country, that assists the low income familes. The same system would you seemingly get rid of. That's the whole point *rolls eyes* we don't see kids in rags (often) or send them up chimneys anymore YIPPEE.All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0
