Frustrating Ebay buyers

toffee - I think what the others are saying is that ebay buyers have a while to pay for goods, and it's their right to leave it right until the last minute if they want to. (or in my case, over the limit!!)

Like I said, in my case, most of the buyers paid quickly - but you can't guarantee it.
If your son needs the money urgently, perhaps he would've been better selling the phone in the free ads or something similar locally?

I usually pay for my items as soon as the auction has finished, but sometimes if auctions finish when I'm not around or something, then it might be a couple of days before I pay.
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

toffee'n'tom, you can consider listing items you want to be paid for straight away as buy-it-now with "immediate payment required" to avoid any delays.

Thanks Dizzie. I'm not worrying so much as just cross. Perhaps ebay isn't for me. I have sold a number of things privately and, to be fair, most people pay straight away, but this time i've been unlucky.

and to a previous post regarding ebay not being no. 1 priority - i don't get that - back to the same thing - buy it - pay for it. I am a single parent with two children - I know what my priorities are but if i've made a promise or a commitment then i stick to it

Do you know that some people have some software that lets them place last minute bids without even being sat anywhere near their PC?

You can also make a last minute bid from your mobile if you are out....how do you expect them to pay immediately if they are out, for example, and are away for the weekend?

You also didnt seem to take any notice of the fact that they may well have paid, but their payment is being held by YOUR paypal. Have you checked your email?

Buyers have 7 days to pay.

I sympathise Toffee, but there's nothing you can do about it so you're best not to let it get to you if you can. Payments typically take longer to get from our Paypal accounts to our bank account than they do to come from our buyers, and you might as well rant about that too for all the good it will do. Paypal holding our money for a week, slow payers, and non paying bidders are just part of the deal on eBay.

The boot was on the other foot for me this weekend. I put a bid in via auction sniper about ten days ago for an item finishing on Sunday night because I knew I'd be out. When I got home I checked my messages, and discovered that nobody else had bid so I had won it.

I also had a stroppy sounding email from the seller sent ten minutes after the auction ended, and five minutes after their invoice arrived in my inbox, asking me to pay asap because they only go to the Post Office once a week.

The tired wine fuelled part of me thought this was quite rude, and considered not paying until the morning or even just not paying at all. Sod 'em. :o

However, the well brought up part of me sent a friendly and apologetic message explaining that I'd been out and bid via a piece of software that I'd set up a week ago, and apologising for any worry I may have caused them, and confirming that I had now paid.(about two hours after the auction ended.)

In return I got a terse one word reply. "Thank you."

It seems that there's a lot people don't understand about eBay. How being rude to a buyer who hasn't done anything wrong can affect your feedback and DSRs for a start.

I hope your buyers pay soon. :)

PS and this is tongue in cheek, perhaps you could remind your son that "if you can't afford it you can't have it" in regard to the new phone he wants to buy? :D

I think you're right to be honest. :)

Although you are not as bad as the seller I had once who finished their item at midnight and by 5PM next day sent a snippy message telling me that they were going on holiday and the item would be posted in two weeks. :undecided

    Two days is nothing.
Four days is what ebay think is reasonable, and they've not long ago reduced it from seven.
Even then they get another 4 days after the dispute is opened to actually pay.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Toffee....they may well have paid. It can sometimes take Paypal a day or two to get the information to you about held payments. So if paypal have decided to hold you payment, you wont get it until you have posted the item off anyway.
Also, many people are not even at their computers when final bids come in. You can never tell.
It can also be a case of a buyer being in the middle of buying lots of items. A couple of weeks ago I was buying around 200 items over 2 days. Id bid and win, move on to the next part of my schedule and when it came to payment, I would pay in specific blocks. It was/is my method. You might not like or understand my method but thats how it is for many people.

As a seller, I sold an item on Thursday and he paid about 20 minutes ago.

The other thing to remember is that people have real lives to sort out and ebay isnt always top priority.

That isn't really correct, as soon as someone pays with paypal it shows immediately. If it is on a 21 day hold then the seller can see the payment immediately but cannot access it. Even an echeque shows in the account immediately but does not clear for days and days and days.

I once bought something with a snipe bid and for work reasons couldn't get to a computer to do paypal for 2 days. When I went to pay I'd found she'd sold it to someone else! She claims it was a second offer but I'm inclined to think the other person offered her more or it didn't get as high as she was expecting.

If people have a credit card set up on their pay pal account their is no excuse not to pay straight away!

On another note, I sold a faulty sat nav on the bay to someone in Italy. I put in bright red letters the unit is sold as faulty.
Now I am getting emails off him saying it doesn't work?!
Don't understand some people especially when I reiterated to him in a email it was faulty.
