so the tories want to raise the retirement age sooner? you've got to feel sorry for those born in the 1980s. what a prospect!

apart from that and a fairly reasonable suggestion to add a cooling off time for store cards this is all just a load of daily mail style hot air.

"common sense", "joined up thinking"....giddy really is rubbish. i can't wait to see him in a face off with the other would be chancellors. i expect they will try to wriggle him out of it.

how is any of this going to help young people trying to get a decent start in life? GO might have come from a family that paid for his education but many are not so lucky. they leave university with massive debts and an increasingly insecure and difficult jobs market. tax breaks or whatever for savers are not going to help them.

Have you ever considered why you are such a !!!!!!?

I am pondering between it being the result of blunt trauma or a genetic defect.

If you are going to attempt to insult me, and by attempt I am affording your drivel a dignity it does not merit, please have the decency to spell my name correctly.

I guess it just emphasises my point about the lack of thought you apply to most of your posts. :rotfl:
"There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "

    Depends were it is studied.

Anyway, whereas I want people in power to have knowledge of history, it is a bit worrying how many history graduates there are in politics.

Essentially, history is the study of rationalising past events. With the benefit of hindsight you pick the 'causes' for events and then produce a plausible narrative rationalising the events.

Historians very rarely attribute enough to chance, or chaos, or to events beyond their knowledge. Things are often presented as far too inevitable and consequential. The world isn't like that. Our primitive brains often think it is, but the world isn't. And historians are trained to take it to the nest level. It's bull***t.

They make successful politicians because they are good at bull***ting. IMO.

Think I would ask how he could possibly fail at being a journalist, a nearly impossible task. But running the country's economy? Does he think that will be easier?

    Don't ask Georgie anything.

Sit there stoney faced, and silent..

...and see how long it takes before he gets fed up and walks off.

That will tell us something about the man.

He has gotta go, he really could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
