Googled their email address and got this newspaper info....

    http://www.newspaperoffers.co.uk/surplsu-wine-champagne.htm

    ???

"There’s no need to go to France for your cut price drinks, as Surplus Wine UK have red and white wine as well as champagne that can be delivered to your door."

As Dell Boy Trotter may once have said "Au contraire Rodney, au contraire" ;)
This is not in the same market as cut price drinks. The "offers" are all very well respected wines, but when you investigate further, then the lists seem to have been copied and pasted from other suppliers. Without going into too many details, some of the wines mentioned have not even been released yet.;)
If the offer is genuine, then how do you know where and at what temperature the wine was stored?

Two other sayings spring to mind now:

    "Fortune favours the brave"

    and more importantly

"A fool and his money are easily parted".
  • A firm word of warning regarding this site. I found this thread googling for information regarding surplus wine. On wine-pages.com there has been extensive discussion over this matter and concern has been raised.

You will have to go to the site yourselves as I am not allowed to post likns here.

No-one has said that this is fraudulent. But there are a number of very knowledgable people in and outwith the trade raising serious concerns.

    Be wary folks.

I'm surprised the poster above who knows the area well has never noticed this restaurant. It's very well regarded in Leeds and has been for quite a few years. I went about 3 years ago and it was lovely - this has reminded me to revisit for their good value lunchtime set meal option.
  • I saw the half page add in the Saturday Telegraph 10 days ago and although I should know better, I did order a reasonable amount of bottles. I checked the free phone number tonight where I placed the order 0800 678 5947 (now disconnected) I rang directory enquiries for a number for Mardenis Ltd and it is ex directory. I tried the restaurant said to be owned by Mardenis Ltd (No3 York Place) and there is a problem with the line.

Mardenis Ltd have a very good credit rating on the source that I checked, so if this is some some sort of scam it is an elaborate one.

If I do eventually get a call about my order I will report back (Not holding my breath in the meantime)

If I find that money has been taken from my card am I covered does anyone know?

I know the area - but not well. I am an occasional visitor during office hours. Sadly, not had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant.

I only wanted to let people know that it wasn't a dodgy area.

    :)
  • My partners parents ordered 4 cases of Verve @ £99.00 each at the start of the month from the Sunday Telegraph. Orginally the order was due to be delivered on thr 17th. This order was then re-scheduled for the 19th March. Gues what. Still waiting.

Very disappointing as they ordered this in mind for our Wedding.

If it does turn up I'll

    a) make a further posting
    b) be very surprised
  • I place the my order with them 2 weeks ago and was told I would get a call.. I ask for the company details and where they were when placing the order. all seamed in order.

i got a call back as promised this week (monday) telling me delivery will be by the 25th.

I believe you are covered if using a credit card, so lets see....
  • Has anyone taken delivery yet please? I am still waiting for my order....
  • Hi

I placed a big order on 8th March, card debited on 9th march; told that the order would be delivered last night but nothing! (this, having been informed that my card would not be debited until my order is on it's way). Has 'anyone' recieved their order yet?
  • I was awaiting delivery last night over here in Belfast nothing!!

I am aware of 2 people in London who were awaiting delivery yesterday and nothing turned up.

I have been constantly phoning them this morning and there has been no answer on the direct line number of 0113 2344010.

If this is a scam it is the most bizarre one I have ever heard of. I think this is just a case of an ineffective company who cannot get it's !!!! in gear. I am a member of the Wine pages forum where this was discussed at great length to the point where the thread was deleted.

There have been members of the forum who have had their cards refunded and also agreed Cheque on Delivery options.

    It is all quite bizarre!!
