You've kind of missed the (blindingly obvious) point. Elderly can and are duped into buying things that are either inappropriate or too expensive.

You would have thought she'd talked about it to a friend, asked whats good now etc. The friend given her age would have almost bound to offer to go with her.

There's something not right. How does a 90 year old in a wheelchair get a TV home anyway? Could have been delivered but if she's easily sold she probably wouldn't have considered that now a days some places deliver large items. Like I said earlier it was said she's on benefits as if moneys an issue, surely she would have thought of getting a cheap second hand one from a local ad mag?

I thought that with age came experience?

Also, i think UK2010 has called the OP's bluff, if a 90 year old woman can get to a store, choose, pay for and then carry home a TV then sure enough she can tell someone she doesn't want something.

This is one of the reasons I went to John Lewis for my set, cheaper than Comet and with a free 5 year warranty.

Aren't you generalising about what a 90 year old lady can and cannot do?

You are obviously free to misjudge however you feel is appropriate, on whatever lack of evidence your preconceptions lead you to.

What I described is what my friend told me over the phone. Knowing her, I don't see any issue in how she got the television. I don't know if she went with somebody or not. I did not discuss with her whether she did the right thing or not in getting the extended warranty.

AFAIU, the title of this forum is for venting. That's what I did.

Somebody called me a liar, without any shred of evidence or reason for doing so. I have seen worse in the world to be really bothered. People do tend to judge others with their own measure.

Somebody else instead offered constructive suggestions and pertinent observations. others mentioned about the possibility of getting a refund, I was not aware of that and I discovered that not only you can get a full refund within 45 days, but a pro-rata refund after that.

When I will go and see her, I will approach the issue and see whether she wants/can pursue it.

AFAIAC I have the information I need and thank those who contributed positively to help me get it.

Odd comment. Are you a bit thick?

Clearly elderly people are likely to be more easily pressured into this sort of thing.

Slightly rude don't you think and I agree if she is capable to go and buy a tv I wouldn't be to worried about her being any less mentally capable than someone half her age.
