My mistake as she was talking about independence i assumed she was talking about Alex Salmond :rotfl:
As for Gordon Brown well i'd be happy for him to disappear up a milk aisle...;)
Our town even made it onto the weather map a few weeks ago we were gobsmacked...(i may be english but i swear the scottish ancestry is coming out in me)
The STV weather is the best, as it pans across the country and pinpoints tiny little villages that look like they've been made up, usually next to a freezing fog warning and a big blue circle saying (-4) lol£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
Great.... replace plastic bottles that are recycled by the local council, with plastic bags that are dumped in landfill.
Nice idea, shame inept councils handicap the scheme somewhat.0 -
My other half works for Sainsburys and came home with the free Jugit and the info leaflet.
Sainsburys are giving away 500,000 Jugits on the 17th April as part of their "Make the difference Day".
Two semi-skimmed bags of milk will be sold for £1.50 (or 80p each)0 -
Used these when we stayed with relatives in Canada. Think they're great, but agree they're quite expensive. Hopefully if other supermarkets sell them, they'll come down in price. :beer:Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0

According to a quote I've found ...
Taking a lead on issues of environmental concern is part of Sainsbury's heritage. They are always looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact. They recently began selling milk in bags which costs at least six pence less for two pints because it uses 75 per cent less packaging than plastic bottles. For more information visit the Responsibility section of https://www.j-sainsburys.co.uk.
So I presume that it will only ever be this amount cheaper at Sainsburys compared to them selling it in their normal containers - which will always (generally) be more expensive than Iceland, Farmfoods etc in the traditional packaging.
Furthermore the bigger the container I'm almost certain means "less of a saving"
Whilst a 2 pint bag is apparently 6p cheaper than a 2 pint "bottle", I'm sure that a 4 pint bag / bottle saving isn't 12p (or the 6 pint bag / bottle option 18p).
That's because a fair proportion of the cost NOT being the actual "plastic content" which increases by a far reduced amount as the volume grows.
For example.
A 2 x 2 x 2 box has a surface area of 24 and a volume of 8 (a ratio of 3 to 1)
A 4 x 4 x 4 box has a surface area of 96 but a volume of 64 (a ratio of 3 to 2)
Using 4 times the amount of plastic (24 to 96) makes a container with EIGHT TIMES (8 to 64) the capacity.
Having said that, we just need Iceland & Farmfoods etc to follow the bag route and it will be cheaper still - with a bit of luck

like the idea of it but i dont like semi skimmed. apart from the obvious benefit of the reduction in packaging doesnt seem to be any cheaper on the milk front. milk seems to be a comparative price unless buying that watery purple top stuff. ok for cooking and hot drinks. iceland £1 4pts. whole milk and semi. thanks anyway
BTW we go through about 20pts a week in our low budget household. recycle everything. but cost is always going to be an issue0 -

Agreed, but if you live near a FARMFOODS ...
also FULL & SEMI, only 2 litre bottles but they are ONLY 75p (actually buy 2 for £1.50)
.. which is cheaper than £1 for 4 pints
