Great minds think alike....i've just bought some butter (buyonegetonefree) so my son and I are going to bake tomorrow morning. Should be fun as he prefers to eat and wear anything we bake! I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks purpleprincess. There's a free event at our local park tomorrow afternoon so we're going to the piccies in the morning, cheaper before 12 noon, then the park and then baking before tea. I'm going to be shattered!

does your local council/youth centre/community centre do anything over the summer? I'm currently organising day trips and visit to fun parks for £1 a head. Also theirs family fun days in the local park that have free craft sessions and music workshops, face painters and bands playing - you just need another picnic!

ring your local council or look on their website for details!

When we were kids  we used to spend a day (yes I know kids these days will be bored after 5 minutes but bear with me !!) filling a matchbox with as many different things as possbile and then at tea-time we would count them up and the winner would get a prize - not financial - maybe they could choose their favourite food for dinner tomorrow?? Just need to get their imaginations going a bit - a blade of grass, a safety pin, a grain of rice, a match, a button etc ... oooh, think I may have a go myself !!!:D

I'm going to have a look at the council website now, thanks for a great idea. The match box idea is great too, just need to find matchboxes as the only ones we have are the giant ones! Mmmm, oxo cube box?

    Day Seven (yesterday)
Went to the cinema to see Cars. Went with my sister so we got the family ticket which was the cheapest way to see it.

Park open day was cancelled due to rain but son bought a tamagotchi with saved up pocket money and we played with that in the afternoon then baked cakes.

    Day eight
Went to the cinema again with a friend. I was buying the tickets and she was providing food which I assumed she'd bring from home. OMG she spent £32 on food and drinks at the cinema for four of us. It stuck in my throat even though I didn't pay for it. Madness, total madness. So, if you're off to the piccies TAKE YOUR FOOD FROM HOME!!!!!!

    Remaining budget for holidays:
    £90.72 - £15 (for family pass to cinema) = £75.72

My next target is 7 days of free entertainment!
