Perhaps we should provide a virtual buffet and a cake for her?........ can the budget stretch to it do you think?.

PDD....I've got a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit me......need to lose weight soon, so I may have to wear my dressing gown.....Perhaps we could have a pyjama party/

    Hi

I don't know whether I qualify cos we are BR rather than on a DMP. We are both 48 and OH has 18 months left of paying the OR every month.

Its quite scary to think that at our age we have lost everything and are starting again (well we will be able when OH finishes the payments)

OH has a good job (thankfully) but we have had to move to the South West to get work, away from family and friends and I am really struggling to get any work, everyone seems younger, fitter, more qualified etc ( more depressing than anything)

The worst thing is I feel old and useless at the moment. I want to contribute and can't

    Anyway enough of that

Oh Cuddles you are certainly not useless. In my day job (when I'm not chief DMP sorter outer and filing clerk) I advise businesses on their day to day running and one the main problems is staff, older (and wiser) staff are definitely more reliable, companies need to recognise this, I keep telling them, you can't buy experience, there is no course that teaches it.
Keep this in your mind and go for jobs where experience and gravitas matter a bit.
and welcome, you don't know how to work the trolleys in Aldi do you?

You are more than welcome Cuddles......pull up a chair and sit yourself down. You are number 6.

Now I think we should set some rules down.....

    First......we don't do OLD:naughty:
    Second.....we don't do USELESS:naughty:

We are ladies/gents of a certain age, we have a lot to offer, we are/havebeen in debt, but the only way is up. Havn't you heard that 60 is the new 40 so you are positively a spring chicken.!!:j

You say that you have lost everything and have to start again, but the one thing I have realized over the last few years, is that "stuff" doesn't make you happy.

Perhaps whilst you are waiting to get work, you could do half a day or so voluntary work in a charity shop for instance. I know that they are usually very appreciative of any volunteers and you would be getting some company at the same time.

The other members will certainly have some words of encouragement for you and I'm sure they will be along soon.......

Just a bit of a helping hand for those struggling for a holiday or break, Mr T's clubcard points go a long way towards things like English Heritage membership with four times the value of the voucher if it's exchanged for membership.
And a few nights in a hotel combined with the offers on National Express coaches can make a break affordable.

We have camped for years, a cheap put together kit in the main, but a good quality 4 man tent only cost me £40 inc delivery in the winter sale. I found good quality sleeping bags on e-bay. My 'rest me old bones' campy chairs cost me £2.50 each at Mr T's in the sale. They also get used in the garden and on cheap days out.

National Trust do 'free days' quite often, I think the next ones are 20th and 21st March, check it out on the website. Chuck a picnic in the car and your good to go.

The Sun newspaper holidays are good value too, we have had some super breaks for as little as £80 for 4 people for a long weekend. I take my own homemade 'ready made' meals in the foil trays( 3 for a pound from the pound shop) so no cooking and it feels like a real holiday.

Money saving but still living! bb

    Hi again

Thankyou so much for the welcome

I have started to do half a day a week at the Cancer Research shop. It keeps me out of mischief and means I am doing something useful.
Also it means that I can cook from scratch and it is nice to have a little time to sit and read or crochet.
I am determined to keep searching for a job and things must pick up eventually.
Apparently I can't retire until I am 66 so I have plenty of time to find something

    Thanks Bluebag.

Your suggestions and ideas are appreciated. We used to go camping when our kids were young, but I wouldn't dare suggest that to my OH now. He will go in a Caravan, which we have done over the past couple of years, but we also use Travelodge when they have the cheap offers on. It can make the difference between having a break or not.

Cuddles.....something will turn up for you eventually, its hard being away from family and friends. My OH was in the armed forces for 22 years and we spent most of that away from family, but I joined various clubs, and that helped, but when money is tight I realize its not always possible. Keep positive and something will turn up......meanwhile keep joining us for a chat.....and Churchrat is 50 onTuesday so we are having a virtual party, so see you then.

    Hi again

    Thanks again

I keep looking online for jobs and a lot of the shops round here put their adverts in their windows so I am making sure that I look every day. I'm sure something will turn up.
As someone said earlier 'stuff' doesn't matter so much any more (in fact we have just had our wedding anniversary and neither of us can think of a present we want )
One of the nice things of helping in the charity shop is that you meet lots of people (and you get to look at all the lovely bargains:j)
There are lots of upsides of not being busy every second of the day
