Hi thewad.
Glad to see you here. You are the proud owner of number 4....see what I mean, we're a very select group.!!:T
I am sure everything will go okay for you when you start your DMP, to be honest its the best thing we did. Prior to that I was always worried about money,:( or rather, the lack of it. I couldn't sleep properly, in fact all my time seemed to be spent worrying over it. We started on the 3rd March 2008 and from the very first week, I managed to sleep properly. Perhaps it was because I felt that we were actually dealing with our debt, rather than ignoring it.
Anyway, if we can help in anyway, just shout........and we will provide the listening ear and a cup of coffee/tea.
PDD.......can't answer your question re the positioning of the Aldi trolley, because when I go to Aldi my OH comes with me usually, and he has to deal with said trolley.....I am usually at the other end of the conveyor belt, trying not to laugh at him panicking because the cashier is faster at putting the shopping through, than he is at packing. !!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hello Wadand well done!! 8.5 yrs may seem like a long time at the moment, but it will soon feel like second nature. At least you have this forum for company, I only found it a couple of years after I started the dfw and its been a real help.
We have been on holidays, but they have been the staying with family/friends type, rather than the hotel type, although we are staying in a hotel on my birthday:D. What we do quite a lot now is swap with people we know who just want a quiet holiday. So far we have been to Italy, France and Ireland and several seaside type breaks. I know you can do this via groups, but our house is not really good enough for that, and I'd feel a bit funny about swapping with people I don't know.
We have been to all sorts of places in the British Isles that we wouldn't normally consider (Belfast anyone?) and had a really good time, which feels so much better cos I don't worry about the cost. All counties have intersting places to visit and we are in the NAtional Trust, which maybe an expense to join but gives "cheap" days out. I suppose it all depends on how you feel a holiday should be.
I like living like this now and feel that the expeince has (in hind sight) been good for us. Even so, I would still like to win the lottery:)LBM-2003ish

Anyhow I keep going have learnt so many things over the last few years and the important one is LOOK AFTER THE PENNYS AND THE POUNDS WILL LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES so I now count very penny, I keep a daily spending diary which helps a great deal and I buy what I NEED. I do have a good life and penny pinching doesnt mean I dont buy the best but does mean I am better prepared to make sure I get the BEST for my money.
They say with age comes wisdom and when I think back over they years of money (which I had to work hard for) has been handed over willy nilly to pay for this or that just because I had the money and thought time was endless - well I dont want to think about it. Time has moved on very quickly and I want to enjoy the years I have left. But I do wish the younger generation would take heed from us elders. Well one day they may (when they are older too lol)Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0 -
I'm a big believer in holidays, we never really went anywhere wildly expensive/exotic, but we did go away 4/5 times a year, 3 weeks away and a couple of weekends. We both have really stressful jobs and I used to subscribe to the work hard/play hard line. The holidays will be cut but I still will try to save a wee bit for a week here and there. I would probably be up for murder if I didn't get away occasionally. Don't even want to go abroad, UK will be fine, just a change of scenery. Need to stay sane to earn the money to pay the DMP, I think there may be some logic in there?More than Two Years in

Hiya Doris
You are very welcome to come and join us, and you are number 5........see how we are growing girls?:T:beer:
You are so right Doris when you say," look after the penny's and the pounds will look after themselves". I don't keep a daily spending diary, but I check my online banking everyday at least once...okay, okay, more than once/twice.!! its an obsession.!
I think that we have all learned lessons the hard way havn't we......we are/have been guilty of spending needlessly, without a thought for the future or our retirement. The future and retirement seemed so far away when we were younger, and now look......its just around the corner. But we will enjoy our enjoy ourselves whilst getting debt free and eventually being debt free.
By the way we are having a party on Tuesday, its Churchrat's 50th birthday.......get your glad rags out.

Do you offer reduced rates for over 60's. I am thinking of enrolling my OH on one of your courses on handling and positioning the Aldi trolley correctly. He wouldn't be able to join until September when he will be in possession of his Bus Pass, 'cos we can't afford the bus fare at the moment. Distance leaning wouldn't be possible until he gets his new specs.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
