Morning All
Agatha I hate hospitals and doctors too but if you need them......................, look at it this way, you have paid!!!!
Elsie, Glad you are feeling better, it just really depresses me, all that time all the money you paid back and they still want a kick as they go by......... i think we maybe take it worse, got more to lose and the time thing comes in all the time and then there is the older generation's take on money, I was brought up by my Great Aunts and they would never never never had any debt, it just would not have occurred to them and my parent s were very mean with money and I think thats why I have spendthrift ways, I did used to hate not having things cos my mother was hoarding their considerable pile of money. Enough psychology this morning, have a good day all

Think you could be right about the "older generation". When we were first married, we didn't have any debt at all. We paid over 9 months, interest free for our first twin tub washing machine, and then when that was paid for we bought a telly, and so on, but we only got something else, when the previous purchase was paid in full. Then we were offered a credit card, We lived in Scotland at that time and banked with Clydesdale bank, and that's when our first credit card arrived, but always with a very low limit. We used it as it should be used, by paying it back as soon as the bill arrived. Then they start to increase the limit and tempt us,, and yes we are /were easily led. The rest is history, probably we could all tell the same story.
Anyway, have a good day.
Elsie x

Hi all:j can I join in please? I don't know if I qualify though as I am not on a DMP - well only a self-imposed one IYSWIM. However, I am a couple of years off retirement - although they keep moving the goalposts LOL & we definitely got into deep financial waters. I've been following the thread with interest & like you all feel embarassed that I have got to this age & am in debt. Slightly different story in that we did very well in self-employment about 12 years ago, both left secure well-paid jobs - got big house, car etc but instead of paying off debts just kept using the cards & thought that money would just keep rolling in - wrong! Then the work /money dried up & we had a lot to pay back out of very little. Things are better now but it's hard going.
Also E52, I see you are into family history - must be the age cause I'm the same. My mother also did it when she was this age - but only for her mother's side. I'm stuck on my grandad, despite him having 2 sons still living, v. hard to find out anything. Any tips much appreciated - we are off this afternoon to the North east & will be looking at 'possibly' where he lived - OOps perhaps that should have been a PM, sorry all:DNew start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -

You are very welcome to join in........I will put you down for a number, when I can remember where we are up to.....that's also an age thing.!! You are in good company here, we all have different stories to tell, but we are all in the same boat. Join in any time you want to.!
On the family history front, my mothers family are all from the north east, and we trailed around the villages and graveyards with my mother..who hadn't seen these villages for about 65 years.!!! needless to say , we struggled trying to find the exact houses where her grandmother lived, but we still enjoyed ourselves. Do you have access to census reports on Ancestry or Find my past. If not, I do, for the next month at least, and then my membership runs out. Will be happy to try and find anyone for you, so send me a PM with any details and I'll have a look for you.
