Hi Joe, and welcome. You are number 12.

It sounds as if you are going to have a bit of a tough time. Have you spoken to Payplan, they are also free. We are on a DMP with them, it might be worth speaking to them to see if they can offer any other advice.

Lets face it the state pension is ridiculously low for two people. Have you spoken to anyone else, I would have thought you would be entitled to help with your rent etc. I am sure that there is a link on the boards to find out if you are entitled to any benefits. I'll have a quick look for you.

Try here, it should tell you if you are/will be entitled to anything.

    Hi everyone,
I'm with CCCS and they do take payment on 1st and pay out about 25th. In fact they seem to take it out of my account a couple of days after I get paid on 24th although officially the direct debit appears on the 1st. Can't complain as they have been brilliant.
Had my first review with them last night. I felt pretty nervous before the phone call but the man was very nice. I've increased amount a bit but not as much as he first suggested.
Elsie, I too always check my bank statement almost daily - often early in the morning too.
    Goodnight all

    Morning everyone.:hello:

Brrr its a cold morning again. Just switched the heating on for half an hour, its generally enough just to warm everywhere before I go to work. I dread to think what the last 3 months bill is going to be. OH is 60 this year and when he gets his heating allowance, he says he is going to have it on loads when I'm not in.! 'cos its his and not mine. lol. I'm not usually cold for long though, I've got my own central heating in the form of Hot Flushes.!!:rotfl:

We have another new member - joenobody, and if anyone can offer any advice to him I am sure he would appreciate it.! Just what do we do if we get to retirement and still have debts.??

Anyway, must go, need to have coffee,:coffee: check banking and get ready for work. Sometimes retirement sounds quite nice especially at 5.15 in the morning. Have a good day everyone.

  • Morning All

Welcome Joe, I'm sure someone will come along shortly with more experience to help out, for the moment I would definitely give CCCS, Payplan or the CAB a call, they are all lovely, won't judge you and will have some answers to get you started.

Off to start up my online account, its like a drug, I have to check that there is money there or I can't go out. I have thought if I didn't check before I went out, I wouldn't dare spend anything, therefore I would have lots of NSDs. Do you see my logic here???? However, I felt really uncomfortable, so back to checking before I go anywhere. Getting old and mad, really.

Not so sunny here to-day, and a bit warmer, knew the sunny dry cold stuff wouldn't last.

    See you all later

    Hi everyone

It is definately getting colder here. Its my morning helping at Cancer Research today and the temperature has dropped just while I have been there, so much so that I have put the heating on to take the chill off the flat.

Even the charity shops have been quiet this week so I don't think people are spending to get us out of the recession round here.

On the up side I found a lovely little cardi ( which will do when the weather warms up) and gave to a collection for our brave lads in Afganistan ( I'd rather they weren't there but I'll support them while they are)

    Anyway I better get on
    Have a good afternoon everyone

what do we do if we get to retirement and still have debts? WE KEEO ON WORKING DONT WE:eek: may not be the same type of work we did before retirement but if needs must then we must. Cant wait until im 65 (2 years to go) and then I get the higher personal allowance:T Anyhow I think there should be personal allowances of £10,000 for everyone thats only £200 a week which in this day and age is ok. Think I shall stand for prime minister;) or even an MP just think of all the perks:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi everyone

Hope you all are having a good day. I have been shopping with a couple of friends when I finished work today. I am very pleased with myself because I didn't buy anything at all. It was very tempting they had some lovely things in M & S, but I stayed strong . Envy creeps in occasionally when my friends were buying things, but seeing as they don 't know my financial situation, I can't explain why I'm not buying. I usually say, I'll call in after work another day and try on.!! :o My nose will be getting longer just like Pinochio. It's these sort of situations that bring home how bad our situation is, but after saying that it was loads worse 2 years ago.

Anyway, that's enough of feeling sorry for myself. I'm going to dig out some ribbon and make a rosette for when I do my campaign work on behalf of Doris. I think her policies are brilliant and she should be prime minister.!!:T:T

Joe, is there any way you or/and your OH can get some part time work after you retire.? I know that's what my OH intends to do, just a couple of days a week, he knows he will find it hard to stay at home.
